Currently waiting on the right pinion flanges to arrive. I ordered the wrong one last time. The splines were right, but not the bolt pattern. Doh.

Suited and booted. Shifter is all ready to go, now much left now. Waiting on new front calipers and new rear axle hub/bearing assemblies. Feels like I haven't driven my truck in a year. :goingcrazy:

Well, I guess that only leaves me with one option. Need a 1" body lift. This project will never end. :bananadead:

Well trucks all back together, transmission has been swapped using a donor from a 2012 t4r, and 4.30 gears are swapped using a 2017 Tacoma front clam and a 99 limited t4r rear elocker. Completed a 400mile round trip excursion over the memorial day long weekend and now it's just various odds and ends to wrap up. Like: finish 1" body lift on the bed, install rear leaf springs, finish rebuilding icon coilovers and the list goes on.....

The rear diff is subject to escalation on the list as I almost had a fubar situation with it when the fill plug on the rear axle fell out along the way on my road trip and as far as I can tell, cooked the bearings. It now makes a god awfull noise at freeway cruising rpm. I luckily had brought extra gear oil and found a way to plug the axle off again from spewing gear oil the rest of my trip.

Made the wiring harness for the power rear slider, now to get my cables in routed and I'm in business.

Hot damn, it's been a year since I posted anything here. :tumbleweed::bananadead:

Because 35s are always the next phase of progression. @Usethe2nd generously donated his old falken 315/70/17s to the cause. Tomorrow I'll take them for a spin after I finish up my AC repair project.

Been a minute since I've updated my trucks changes, so here's an update. A few weeks back I had a wheel bearing fail, allowing the rear axle shaft and wheel to leave the axle housing and try to pass me doing ~50mph. I figured it was a sign that it was time to do something with the rear axle so I decided on rear disc brake conversion using an axle from a 03+ t4r/gx470. Need to finish cleaning up the remaining suspension brackets the t4r and gx use, and weld on the leaf spring perches.

Are track width and axle ratios the same? I don’t think the diff pumpkin from a Tacoma would fit, right?

track width is the same. depending on the source of the axle, the gear ratio can vary between 3.73 and 3.90. v8 vehicles received the 3.73 such as the gx and some t4r also the AT fjc, or the 3.90 being found in the 1grfe t4r anb MT fjc. i cant speak for all years, but the axle im using, the 3rd is bolted in using 10mm studs, similar to the elocker axles. i also have an "8.4" axle houseing and the biggest noticable difference between those and the elocker/non elocker housings is that they use 12mm studs to mount the diff. so it would stand to reason that much like the earlier mini truck axles, which also used 10mm studs, i will be able to modify this housing by notching out on the drivers side (right hand side when looking to the rear of the truck at the pinion, left when looking to the front or from the rear of the truck) and also need to drill and tap a couple new holes to add the studs needed to accomodate the elocker actuator.

Yeah 4runner's kept the diff of the mini trucks up until the 4th gen and changed some for the 5th gen.

For now I'll be just running it as is, 35's on 3.73 :anonymous::annoyed::bananadead:, and down the road I'll either notch it for an e-locker or source another axle for the end cups to weld on my elocker axle. I think the notching idea would be easier than trying to align and make the axle tube end cups true so that I don't end up going through wheel bearings like candy. I'm about to start tacking the perches and then burn them in once I know they're in the right place. I've decided to also clock the perches to compensate for the pinion angle and eliminate the need for a shim.

Welp, axles been under the truck for 2wks now, I ventured out to Roslyn, and a quick rip up to the south lookout at stampede pass switchbacks heading to Lester. There's a little vibration from stopped to maybe 5mph, but after that it clears up. Tracks straight and stops decent, I think with a little more bleeding they should be much better. Still need to weld in my rear shock mounts. 5th gear has pretty much been worthless unless I'm going down hill, and even then, I still find it dropping into 4th gear . :annoyed::anonymous:

Still also need to finish up the ebrake.

Ordered up new leaf spring bushings, and a twinstick setup from front range off-road. I'll be putting my archive garage shackle flip back on, and hopefully also get my sliders reinstalled too. Sloooooowwwly getting the truck back to the way it was prior to Toyota replacing the frame under the WEP.
