Has anyone actually use the d rings on the body armor bumper? I am concerned that the mounting bolts would not hold under a high load pulling operation.

Read the reviews on Extreme terrain. Here's one review:
    "Do not buy this bumper
I put this rear bumper on my 2020 Toyota Tacoma around two months ago. Seemed like a great way to add extra tow points to the rear of my truck for more recovery options. Install went smoothly and made sure that all of the bolts and hardware were torqued down very tightly (bent my 1/2” drive breaker bar on the carriage bolts). I used the driver side shackle to recover a friend of mine who was stuck on the beach day before yesterday (Pulled him out on the 3rd tug). The passenger side of the bumper caved my bedside in and chipped a thumb sized area of paint off of the body of my truck where the bumper made contact. I would absolutely not recommend this bumper to anyone unless it is purely for aesthetics. Time to take my brand new truck to the body shop before rust starts to form."

They are actually fairly solid, could be better for sure, on my desert series bumper. I bought the desert series front and rear bumpers a few years back so I don't know it the build, I won't actually call it quality, is still "as good." I have a thread on the the bumpers, "A Little Scary." I was kind of laughed off the site when I first posted the front bumper on my truck. Nothing else it is good for some laughs...

I have that rear bumper, and I wouldn't trust it. Small jobs sure, but anything high load I have doubts. I didn't get it for the recovery purposes, although the rings do aesthetically look nice, but it serves me well for my camping/mall-crawling purposes.

Some more food for thought as you ponder your rear bumper:
I really hate the plastic bumper. It sucks. I’m often on dirt trails and need to back out of thick brush. I’m sure that some day when I back into some white thorn and then pull forward, that brush is going to pull off a plastic cap.

Having said that, I was recently rear ended, and while the bumper shattered, the truck body is remarkably intact. I inquired at the body shop about an aftermarket metal bumper, but the body shop recommended against it. The factory bumper is designed to disintegrate on impact, yet the tensile strength of the plastic is greater than metal. The end result is that it saves your body and frame.
One other item: those aftermarket bumpers are heavy. I have a shell, and the bumper would make the rear sag to the point of needing blocks or a leaf spring upgrade. The issues keep building. My advice is to stick with your stock bumper.

Side note, I have one of those rear receiver hitch D ring mounts in my recovery bag.
