Fortunately the mounting points for this particular bumper are studs that are attached to the frame (Toyota built). But I see your point. Will measure and thoroughly inspect welds and steel thickness, the best I can, when it arrives. Thanks for the video share!

I was thinking to put this on mine too. But I dont like how it mounts on frame, like L shape, it can bent the frame during impact

it's hard to tell in their pictures, but it almost looks like it's just a solid plate that bolts to the truck, and then a single vertical piece of plate steel that then transfers all forces to that mounting plate.

i'm not worried about the oem studs, or mounting configuration, i'm most concerned about their use of vertical plate steel as a structural component.

my sdhq hidden winch mount is all 1/4" steel plate, but then there's a large gusset across the vehicle mounting stud locations, as well as 2 underside crossmembers that are added on to further tie in the winch plate to the vehicle.

I had read about some complaints about the weak points on the DV8 version, which is similar to these, but haven't heard any negative feedback on the BA version. When it arrives I'll try and compare the load points on the mounting plates to the winch plate. Thanks for pointing that out.

Correct me if I'm wrong here but the idea of a winch bumper is to be attached to the strongest point of the vehicle, which in a stock vehicle case, is the frame. Every winch bumper i've ever had has been attached this way. It's just the risk you take if the vehicle were to take a hit hard enough, or at the proper angle, to transfer the impact to damage the frame. I think all the stealth bumpers mount this way, don't they? Maybe some of them have steel running farther back in the frame but I haven't seen them in person.

I was looking into this bumper as well. Let me know your thoughts when it comes in. Looks solid to me and very similar to the BA.

To be determined.. ;) picked it up for 260$ a few weeks ago , arrived in 2 days. I am doing a budget build, keeping cost down to minimum.I Have a cheapy Amazon 10k winch coming and a open box special amber light bar.

This weekend i drilled 2 small holes on the outsides of the hoop to remount my existing LED pod lights i currently have. Then i did a quick scuff, and rattle can bed lined the bumper saturday and sunday outside. It definitely had some blemishes. Shitty welds. Scratches, and breaks in the paint finish. U get what you pay for id say lol

i am excited about this budget build though. Waiting on winch, lightbar, then going to install. Debating viper cut too, but not 100% on that yet. Hoping to get a bunch of stuff done on truck here soon before winter ..

Had a old pair of shackles a friend left at my house several years ago here, that i will be using. Again free, keep cost down.

as far as winch mount plate stregnth i have been reading into that. I read about the bamf and other frame reinforcements you can buy. Im going to start asking my mechanic friend about it this week as well, get his thoughts on it all. See if i need to beef it up or if there is way too.

Shitty welds in general? Not sure the BAMF bumper reinforcement plates are gonna help with that unless they bolt from the winch plate to the frame. Let us know what you end up doing.

I am talking about L shaped mounts. Someone here used paint tool to draw it, i can't find it .

    framebumper.png

This is how he drew it, mine looks worse but you get the idea. The first one is bad because it can bent the frame upwards. While second one mounts on frame straight on.

Love mine. Paired with Warn 10S Winch. Used it a few times.

Thank you, how shitty are the welds? I don’t think I’m going to plan on using a winch if I get one, but I’m sure that could change down the road.

Theyre ok.. just not the best looking. Who knows if the body armor version is any better. The pictures in the Amazon listing are pulled right from Body Armor lol, they just blurred the BA stamp a little but you can still see it. I am excited about my budget winch ... ;)

What are your guys thoughts on the bumper reinforcements? About $200, go on the front frame horns. Strengthen it up when running bumper and winch.

ugly welds can hold structurally. BUT you do like to see stacking dimes because it shows a complete and consistent burn around a joint. Im interested in how you like it. Some guy on youtube bought one installed it and then pulled the truck in park on in dirt/mud condition and the bumper held.
