    Hello all,
I recently got a dent in my 2 month old truck. Not sure how, but somebody did it while I was camping. Couldn't be a car where I was parked so I figure it was a chair or cooler or something. Its on the rear corner of the cab, behind the rear door. Right on the bend where the metal is very rigid so they must have whacked it good. The paint is fine. You don't really see it when the light is good only when the light is at any angle.

I talked to a PDR guy who said he could only do it by drilling holes in the door jamb. Don't want to drill into my new truck. I figure when the truck gets some real damage (although hopefully that's never) then maybe I'll have this taken care of then. What do you think it might cost for a body shop to fix this (non PDR)? What would you do???

    Thanks

I would go the PDR route on that one, maybe try another shop, don't know if he took the back out, maybe there is a way to get behind there without drilling.

Its double walled there so they cant get behind it. Best he could do it glue pull...which could get 80 to 90% of it.

Yup, that would hurt if I had a dent like that on a new truck.

I had someone splash paint on mine at work this past Thursday.
When I first saw it I thought it was bird crap, looks like someone took a paintbrush they were cleaning and just slung white waterdowned paint on it.
It was splashed on the cab, doors and hood.
I just don't see birds doing that, there were spots were no bird could poop.

I will be doing a little investigating on Monday.
It all came off easy, I keep it waxed good.
Some people can be such an ass.

I would go the PDR route. Get a few estimates but usually they plug up the holes where it would look like factory plugs. Who would even actually notice or even see the door jamb plugs besides you?

I duno I'd leave it the way it is... or fix it myself, but that's just how my brain operates.

Someone ran into my car a while back in a parking lot a Hit and Run.
I was out of a job and no money to get it fixed... back then. Had a few beers and bought a band aid decal from eBay and called it "Fixed"
It's a good laugh and story for me.

I've always wanted to try this though.

I'd go PDR. If he's any good he'll goop it up and throw a factory looking plug in the hole. Then just paint the plug if it bugs you..

thats a bad spot for a dent :( personally i would leave it as-is. drilling holes would make me nurvous personally. but the previous reply was valid, that would be a comp claim, it only counts against you if you change insurance companies.

on that note, most people are not aware that there CLUE report is just as important as you credit report. and just like your credit report you can request a free one every year at

    http://www.lexisnexis.com/privacy/for-consumers/request-personal-information.aspx

When you see the report you will understand what i mean when saying a comp claim only affects you if you change insurance companies.

i just learned about these and ordered mine, their was 8 EIGHT! errors!

an error concerning like a boat claim or something can make your homeowners insurance go up, etc, its worth the time to get a copy

Yes, I know what insurance is and does, thanks. I was not inquiring about coverage, I'm asking about costs of full on body work vs PDR. And looking for opinions on whether to fix or leave it.
The plugs are small and almost factory looking but drilling my new truck....yeah, no. Not yet anyway.
Anybody think the glue pull would be effective on a corner like this?

i don't think the glue pull would work too well in that spot its a pretty solid piece, man they got you in the worst spot, i feel for ya, the 5th day i had mine someone in a low car must have backed into mine, it dented the body strip under the back door at the very bottom, again another hard spot to fix without doing major body work, i just left it since the paint was not cracked. if my side bars would have arrived a day sooner... :(

So anybody with experience doing or using PDR think the glue pull can fix most or any of this?

do the glue pull, you can always change your mind and have the rest done with the jam drilling, certainly much cheaper than making a claim on insurance....bummer, the first real dent is the worst...

Look for an other PDR guy - not all of them need to drill holes. Or if a hole is needed it can be drilled from the interior, not the door jamb. Yes, it may require some R&I of interior trim. May want to check out the ones that work on Euro cars. Glue pull is fine, but that dent will require finessing the backside to walk it out.

I have the same dent but not as big on the driver side cab caused by someone with a shopping cart.

My truck is currently in the body shop because of damage from an accident but they are having their PDR guy come in to fix that dent. They might have to drill the door jamb or might not. I will find out when I pick it up later.

I feel your pain. I got a baseball sized ding in the rear fender, just behind the gap between the cab and the bed. My truck was less than 4 months old, but luckily it was easily PDR'd out. I wouldn't want holes drilled in my brand new truck either. Good luck, OP!

I just got my truck back from the body shop. The PDR guy was able to fix the dent on driver's side cab corner without drilling into the door jamb. He glued the tool and then pulled out the dent. Then he used some kind of solvent to remove the glue. Lastly he fine tuned the high spots by tapping on them with a plastic tool. I should have taken a picture before he fixed it. It looks like it never happened. Impressive
