body Lifts!?!?!? just curious no hard feelings ;)

Its common sense really, the body and frame are not meant to be separated. Messes up fuel lines, brake lines, shifter, steering, bumpers... and anything else that connects to both body and frame need to either be bent or extended.

I can look at a truck and tell its a body lift due to the space between the frame and the bed. people try and cover it up with plastic cutouts..... but i can still spot it. but if you'd combine a 4"lift with a 1" or less body lift then it might not be AS noticeable and it might look ok but still there just not my thing imo.

There is nothing worng with the stock suspension if you use your truck on the street most of the time, just because you have a lift kit that doesn't make every stock Tacoma "pathetic"

 

There was a user on here that posted his 1" lift, I believe this was in addition to a suspension lift.

I didn't say every stock Tacoma is pathetic but the sorry excuse for a suspension that Toyota put on it from the factory certainly is... 300 lbs and it's bottomed out, tell me how that's anywhere near adequate. Sure, I got the TSB done and about a year later, I flattened that leaf pack also. I use my truck on pavement but use it like a truck and the suspension is definitely the weak point of the truck, it's not a big secret. Aftermarket lift components are more readily available to beef up the suspension so I went that route to solve my problem (didn't want to deal with air bags). I wasn't trying to say just because a truck isn't lifted it's pathetic, mine is a very short lift and a lot of people don't even realize it's lifted.

 

PSUTaco85 did that. He has Icon coilovers and added a 1" body lift to help clear larger tires.

Most cars are fwd where the weight of the engine is, so they are able to get decent traction in the snow where a 2wd truck is rwd with significantly less weight over the rear wheels and isn't able to get decent traction in the snow. Sandbags help but 2wd trucks are just not great for the snow.

I would say a 1" body lift would be okay as long as it is a good kit with good hardware and installed correctly. A lot of the issues with larger body lifts won't necessarily happen on a smaller one like a 1" body lift.

 

I just spent the last week in Moab and I have decided I want to eventually go with 35s. After riding/seeing Rock Gecco, Bulhas, and PSUTaco85 trucks they all have small body lifts to help them clear 35s. I believe all of them just went with 1" lifts. I think I will also be heading this route. I really don't like body lifts at all, but 1" is not much, but it means a lot when it comes to sticking bigger tires on our trucks.

 

I put a body lift on a Dodge D50 back in the 80s. Granted it was a 2WD but body lifts are pretty much the same thing in 4x2 and 4x4. Its just a spacer between the frame and the body. I found a few issues with it. First it was only a 2 inch lift but I lost the adjustability of my tilt steering. I also had some issues with my gear shifter popping out of gear. These items are connected to the frame and just enter the cab. So you change the cab position and you change the way these things function. That alone was enough for me to remove the lift and steer clear of body lifts forever.

 

I got a body lift so hate on it.

 

I just installed the 4crawler 1" BL on my '03 and plan on adding the bilstein/OME suspension kit. The reason I'm posting is that there were a couple of points to consider that I didnt see while reading:

CV-shaft angle - You can avoid making your CV-shafts work harder by being at a steeper angle by using a body lift (IF you're just looking for more tire clearance) instead of a suspension lift.

Center of Gravity - You raise more weight when lifting suspension than you do when lifting just the body, thus raising your center of gravity. This is really nitpicky for 90% of the people out there but center of gravity can make a difference when you are wheeling on some steep terrain.

Despite the 2 points above I still believe less is more when it comes to body lifts. I installed a 1" to fix an immediate need for my front tires to stop rubbing, plus I think it will compliment the 2.5" suspension lift when I get it and decide to run 33" tires, which I am still on the fence about. Hope this helps!

 

I had hit something pretty hard in an 86 yota with a body lift, and suspension lift and tipped all the body mounts forward..

 

i dont mind a small 1" body lift, but 3-4 inchers are just not that cool

just ask her what she thinks about 3-4 haha

How many of these users that constantly post about how much they hate body lifts have ever actually owned a vehicle with one? Probably not many. A lot of these guys just jump on the bandwagon of hate. Every 4x4 I've owned has had a 1 inch body lift without ever having problems. Put a 1 inch on our trucks, toss on a set of sliders, and it's almost unnoticeable. And, as someone already stated, that 1 inch helps make a huge difference in clearance. Less trimming and beating the hell out of pinch welds and cab chops. Cosmetic my ass... ok, I'm done

 

Puts strain on bolts and frame. I like how body lifts look when done right, but I'm not a big fan. Also, from what I understand, when your body is up off the frame like that, it changes how the truck absorbs impact in terms of collisions.

 

I hate body lifts.. I'd just rather save up and buy something nice..
