I know what you're saying, and they couldn't care less whether or not citizens want to be bodyscanned. I think whether or not it is a constitutionally protected right is very relevant... I don't see how it could not be.

And at these dui roadblocks do they have the right to search your car and do a pat down on you with no probable cause? Don't think so. Thank you for making my point for me.

I agree, we definitely need to find better solutions. I have made that point as well. Israel does an excellent job of using alternatives, but many of their alternatives, would make people very uncomfortable here in the states.
I am just tired of hearing that it is about our rights. You do have options available. Charter a private plane, if you can afford it.

And Pingo, it is well within a cop's right to pull you over and pat you down, but you right in that there are limitations to what is within your rights. Interstate and intercity travel on land is a defined right in the constitution. Roads are public spaces. Commercial aircraft is not.

The airlines aren't considered public transportation...the airlines are governed by the FAA, which is federal and falls under the Sec. of Transportation. There mission is "to provide the safest, most efficient aerospace system in the world." Now, since there are some people who want to harm others using airplanes as weapons of opportunity or whatever they deem is necessary to hurt others, they, the FAA and TSA, have every right to allow airplane passengers to travel without fear of being harmed. (in my opinion)

Its too bad in this day in age that we have to turn to full body scans to fly in a plane. I personally would want to arrive alive after having a full body scan than to die in the air. A lot of people hate America for what we are. Go live in another country for a few and Im sure you will enjoy going through a scanner to make sure another passenger doesnt have an explosive device. Thats just what I think.

You both completely, completely are missing my point.

These scanners will not necessarily improve security, but look more like security theater. You won't be safer.

There are other options that can give us actual improvements in security and safety.

How could there be more security than a full body scanner?

You're assuming it will catch everything.

    What if?
    - A terrorist puts a bomb in his butt. (has happened, is not unrealistic)
    - A terrorist puts a bomb in cargo. (has happened, is not unrealistic)

Wouldn't it be better to look for people trying to do bad things, rather than bad things? The Israelis do.

I can't sit online all night, but I just hope people for this incredibly invasive technology consider that it is very far from perfect, it violates our privacy, and there are other options available that work better AND don't violate our privacy. I'm advocating that we try one of them.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
Everyone is going to die at some point. I would much prefer to die free as opposed to some Orwellian bastardized version of the country I love which is the same one who's pledge ends with "liberty and justice for all." It's called life...take a fucking chance. Far more 600 mile an hour gigantic tylenols have fallen from the sky due to mechanical failure than any "terrorists" could ever bring down, yet we have absolute faith that as long as osama is not on board that we will be "safe". Going down on an airliner sure beats the hell out of being too old to control my bodily functions, rotting in some smelly retirement home secretly praying to myself to go peacefully in my sleep when I go to bed each miserable night.

Safety is not guaranteed to you by our constitution, but liberty most certainly is.

Hehe. Great points man. The struggle for control in our culture is obsessively grotesque.

Honestly, we, as a nation, have gotten very lazy. We expect things to go quickly. By that, I mean, meals...we want them ready now, not in 15 minutes but now. information...we want know what our friends are doing (facebook, texting, this website LOL) now I could go on. This is the main point, if we took the time and conducted actual inquires to figure out who is trying to hide something and who isn't, we'd be safer.
I've traveled on EL AL, and I hated them asking so many questions. My time getting through security wasn't any longer than any other place I've been to. They have the best safety record when it comes to combating terrorism plots and the airline. The body scanner is EXPENSIVE and a really lousy way to conduct business. They need to invest in more people that can scare the crap out of you before you ever set foot on a plane, people who will ask you a ton of questions vs. relying on an expensive machine.

So you are saying you want to crash in a plane while young instead of enjoying life when you get older. :(

I was stating that a cop doesn't have the right to so neither should a tsa agent. We have rights for a reason. No they can't use a breathalyzer on every driver, not without reasonable suspicion one has been drinking, so yes breathalyzing everyone that drives by without reason would be considered invasion by a "person like me". No my retort wasn't a fallacy at all.

to all of those people on here that are FOR the body scanners: you are nothing but a bunch of controlled sheep to the slaughter. You dont even have a freaking clue how this country is REALLY run. But then I wouldn't expect you to know, growing up and becoming sociallized in a society of rules and controls that you dont even know exist. The same society that taught all of you the way of thinking that you are all using. America has already fallen, you just dont know it yet, the ELIETS of this world have a plan for all of us and it is not a good one. Things like this body scanner are just the tip of the iceburg and a small clue into the inner workings of what is being planned for the american people. This whole thing goes way beyond just the stupid body scanners, but I dont have time to get into that here.

Soon, very soon you will see an America that you will not recognize.....and then you will beging to wonder what went wrong? I will tell you what went wrong.....oh yah you said " i dont care, let them scan me, I have nothing to hide" or " no big deal, I would rather trade freedom for security" ............and then you will get up off your couch throw your beer down and realize that your freedoms are gone, and say " this is not right MR GOVERNMENT! I want my freedoms back now!.............and Mr. GOVERNMENT will reply " im sorry, but remember when you said you wanted us to protect you from the terrorists? Well we are just doing exactly what you asked us to do"

That is how it will happen people, you will beg the government to take away your freedoms so that we can be safe.

That is how freedom will die in America.......with thunderous applause, and you wont even know it untill its too late........

I lol at all the people here on both sides who think they know so much more/so much better than the other side.

All the sheep comments made by folks who think the government is evil. And the implications that people who are against scanner have something to hide by the folks who are for them.

There are plenty of instances of searches which are conducted in an administrative function of using a system. Like operating most boats in US waters subjects the owners/operators to safety boardings by the Coast Guard at any time. Operation of a motor vehicle requires you to maintain your vehicle in certain condition, otherwise you can be fined, forced to repair it, or not be allowed to use your car any more. And as of right now- No matter how you read the Constitution- These scanners aren't illegal....Contested-Yes. Illegal-No.
