I have a honda s2000 with failing clear coat. Anyone have a shop they trust? Its only the trunk and hood so I would prefer to drop them off rather than having the shop guys hooning around in my car for weeks.

Might wanna suggest your location so you don't get recommendations like Fix Auto in Santa Clara. Of course, they have other places too but they're a Honda recommended body shop.

good point. I am up in the foothills east of Modesto. Figured I would have to travel a bit to get a quality shop. Thanks for the recommendation, I will check them out.

The dealer I usually take my civic to had one they’d taken in trade. That car was immaculate! I thought they’d been holding out selling or something. It had 30k miles on it and it was perfect. In that beautiful red too.

that red and also the blue look great on them. Unfortunately for me, mine is the blah Sebring Silver, but full red leather interior. Would like to respray the whole car oem red or blue, but if I ever go to sell it any perspective buyers will think I am hiding body repairs.

I don't think so. Just document the process.

They may not be willing to do that. There is no 'clear coat repair' that I am aware of, those panels will need to be repainted.

Most shops don't want to panel paint because they are concerned (rightfully) that the work won't be an exact match to the adjoining bits. They will likely want to blend it into those panels.

Just write down the odo when you drop it off, and let them know you've done so. Unless you have some type of system that will make a lower 'rev limiter', that should defer hooning. Along with some fine white paint stripes across the tread of your tires. :D

Wait....you're near Modesto? Stay there...you have a sick lowrider community there. Find out where they get their body/paint done and also pay your local labor rate.....vs outrageous bay area rates.

The biggest cost to paint is labor these days. I remember reading on the paint forums and the low rider forums that there're good shops there. I'd just check out the local bodyshops or stop by one of the meet ups and ask them where those guys got their paint done.

Agree here, Silver is notoriously difficult to match because it's the tone of the silver plus the mica flake put inside the paint makes it supremely difficult to match. Experienced folks have to go through several tests and it takes time to get the match just right. Even then, they prefer to do a blend, which I personally don't like.

PM me, I've done some work for a few guys here. Parts off the car is ideal and makes things very easy, the shop is top notch in Sacramento and the cash price is very reasonable.
