Hello, I recently bought a 2001 tacoma for 7500 with 158000 miles. I moved to FL without a vehicle so I needed something soon. It's not pretty, but it could be worse. I doesn't have rust below thankfully.

My question is, would this be worth a body work and paint job, or should I just trade it for something cleaner in the future? Also, I've seen some mixed opinions on maaco, but idk, spending more than half of the vehicles' value on paint seems absurd to me.

Get a quote at a bodyshop one click above Maaco , if you want to keep it.
The down side would be the downtime you wouldn't be driving the truck. Good Luck with the decision.

This truck is a great canvas to learn how to do bodywork. That’s how I learned.

Drive it as it is. If all good with engine, powertrain - enjoy driving, decide on painting later on then.

Will check out some reputable local shops. Thanks!

Honestly, I would, but this new military life barely gives me time to see my family. Let alone do bodywork. Thanks for the suggestion :)

    Maybe I will

    Keeper for sure.

IMO, address the rust first. That's the biggie.

Keep an eye on Craigslist, FB Marketplace, the sale section here for a tailgate. You might find one in better shape cheaper than fixing yours.

Then get a decent paint job and call it a day. Enjoy the miles and the smiles.

Overall it's definitely worth keeping..and if you chose not to for whatever reason you would definitely get it sold fast.
