    Hey everyone!,

Does anyone have an issue with the 3rd Gen Tacoma in which once you have completely released your foot off the clutch and it is in gear it jumps a little with steady throttle being applied? Could it be the clutch slightly slipping cause it feel like a loss of torque for split seconds. I am trying to decide if this is something I should have Toyota look at.

    Yup.

it’s a combination of the accumulator and garbage stock tune. I’ve replaced both and my truck is smooth as can be.

tune. Accumulator shouldnt make a difference when fully released.

Thank you Shellshock! I have only had my truck for 1 month and have 1,800 miles now, I took a road trip this past weekend, I've noticed this issue right off the bat! but now I have something else to run by you!

    Here comes the punchline!!!

This past weekend I got myself into some sand with no problem since there was no parking I parked on sand! 4x4 got me to my parking spot no prob!!!!......well when it was time to leave I tried to leave on 2wd and dug the rear tires, I then turned on my 4x4 but went straight to low so yes I never engaged 4x4, I was running 2wd still, at this point I am just spinning my brand new tires which actually erroded a little due to the sand. A guy then told me my 4 wheels weren't spinning, so then I gathered myself and switched on 4x4. By this time the smell of clutch was obvious and I really felt like shit! it bruised my ego bad!!! If I had just left 4x4 on when I parked this would have never happened!!!
The point is I glazed my clutch already at less than 2k miles and I will never live this down, of course the clutch cooled down now, but I don't know if my truck will still be able to perform if I had to tow or climb! I called Toyota and a replacement would cost me $1860 with labor. My truck feels fine now but I have seen other threads where they talk about bad clutches to begin with, the smell of a burning clutch is something I never want to smell again!!!! I pride myself of being a good drive but being a rookie on sand got the best of me and got me into that predicament.

    Any thoughts??

You tuned and removed the accumulator after your warranty was up? How do you get the tune in, is it like a Ktuner? an ECU flash?

I did them both at like 20-30k miles

the tune is a flash of the ecu.

    two things

1 - you are way over complicating this.
2 - learn when to use 4hi vs 4lo, you shouldnt have had any clutch slippage issues. In sand, 4lo is not your friend.

I really came here cause I thought we were gonna talk about this:

    and this:

    upload_2020-7-27_20-11-42.jpg

    Was very disappointed :pout:

1st and 2nd gear would be fine for either of these but 3rd and 4th might be more fun.

Unless you saw big billowing clouds (like you were doing a burnout) coming out from under your truck, there is no way you fried your new clutch.

As for glazing, any "damage" if any you might have done will clear up with regular use. Newer clutch materials are pretty resistant now. A little smell and no big clouds of smoke means you don't have to worry about glazing either.

As for the bogging.Jumping going on in first... if you can find a spot where you can reproduce it every time... try going over the same spot with the traction control turned right off ( completely stopped, neutral, and long push and hold on the traction control button until the dash lights come on) .

Mine was stock and never had any issues. No tune, no delete accumulator, just stock. Smooth as I was...

You’re right, even a Chinese ICBM does 3 miles per second .... I’m over as far as I can go!
