Not my first rodeo..... I've been working on, driving, and owning 4wds since 1972. I have a shop where I work on 4wds for other folks. There are (literally) thousands of people who regularly post on TW that have installed shocks/springs without a compressor. So easy ANYONE can do it. I guess your "limits" preclude you from the "anyone" category....

Correct. And you do so by loosening tension on coils....re; the video on decompressing/compressing coils without removing them from the truck....Can be (easily) done in 30 minutes per shock. Piece of cake.....

Do not hate what you do not understand.

Bluegrass, you provide many helpful and insightful posts on here. I don't doubt that you are a competent mechanic - far more so than I am. Have you ever adjusted 5100s without removing them? I can see adjusting threaded body coilovers, but the way the spring perch covers the clip on a 5100...I cant see pulling off this feat. The tutorial on decompressing/ compressing a spring with the weight of the vehicle is good info. I've done a few struts this way over the years. I've installed 5100s on 2 vehicles, so I'm no expert. The spring needs to be compressed pretty far, giving several inches of work space, to adjust the 5100.

Perhaps this is possible, but If the OP has to ask - I'd say no in his case, and in mine too. I'll remove them If I ever feel the need to adjust them.

Bluegrass, perhaps you could provide a how to thread with pics and/ or video. Thank you.

It seems that what is being referenced is how to remove the tension from the shock without removing it from the truck. So in this case, yes you can reset the height of the 5100 without removing the shock from the truck. The thing that prevents the clip from being changed is the tension on the spring, this method removes the tension prior to removing the shock. I've watched this video many times to prepare for my eventual front suspension upgrade.

    Short and sweet...Yes I have.

Next time I do one, I'll get someone to video the process while I do it. I'm most assuredly NOT going to go through the process just to convince someone else of what I already know to be a relatively easy task.

I'm just asking that you make knowledge available to those of us who don't know. Many of us would appreciate you making that video. Thank you.

Did you look at the link in post #4? Not sure why you want a video made personally by Bluegrass Taco when there are several already in existence.

My apologies. I thought it was one of the standard videos about installing/ removing struts without a spring compressor.... sorry @Bluegrass Taco. I assumed and made an ass out of me - didn't mean to involve you personally.

If you would bother to take the time to READ (and comprehend) the OP's statements in this thread, he has already stated he INSTALLED his struts USING THE TECHNIQUE DESCRIBED IN THE VIDEO I POSTED. Not everyone is as dumb as a bag of hammers......Some people are capable of making decisions on their own without having to be saved from themselves. .....I'm trying to provide the OP with the knowledge to do what he inquired about. I'd say THAT would more appropriately fit your "just want members to have options".....
