Bolt missing 2016 OR Access Cab

Just noticed a bolt was missing. Did it work it’s way out or do these ship without this cover bolted down?

any idea what size/length for this engine cover?

 

Something bolts to that. It could be a harness or vacuum valve. Either way, your truck isn't equipped with whatever goes there.

Toyota might use the same valve cover on different engines/models.
It's cheaper to produce one part that fits multiple vehicles.

 

Normal. If you can, see if the other bolts fit that hole. If they fit, take measurements and buy a replacement bolt from McMasters or Toyota.

 

Easy to tell if something was there. Are the threads dusty/rusty? If so then there was nothing there. If the threads are clean and silver looking, then something was there.

 

Nothing goes in that hole. This engine is used in the Highlander, Camry and Avalon. Each has different harness routing. And that hole is to bolt the harness bracket down on one of the other models.

 

Quite a few empty bolt holes on Tacomas that aren't necessarily utilized on some models.

 

Nothing like filling a hole with a bolt that’s not suppose to be and breaking it... you’re good brother... they all like that

 

That’s the thing, it’s clean and shiny around the threads.

 

It's probably just for something that gets mounted on there in a different vehicle. If you want to just put a bolt in it so you don't keep wondering about it, it's probably an M8x1.25 bolt if I had to guess and somewhere in the 3/4 to 1 inch long range.
