    Hey folks,

Curious if anyone has any thoughts on prepping a frame for bolt on sliders when it already has the undercoat done by the dealer. I think it's called armor-body undercoat or something similar.

    Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Good that you are thinking about that, but different parts of the country have different metal rust prevention requirements.

A general location where you are at will allow us to give you a better answer.

Yeah thought about that. I'm located primarily in Vermont. Going to be traveling all over the country but the rig has and will continue to see its fair share of wet, snowy, and salt covered roads.

Done mine in the past with fluid film. Prevents rust and corrosion if water or moisture does make its way between the frame and slider mount. Always looks spotless when I take them off to repaint or powder coat. Stinks like hell, but soaking that portion of the frame and slider bracket in fluid film is the way to go.

Just like I have to deal with.

I don't find the dealership undercoating that durable. Ive got it on my 04 and there has been little left the last 5 years.

I really like the oil/lanolin based undercoatings. These materials keep on creeping into the crevices season after season.

I'm a fan of the brand Fluid Film. I've sprayed all 3 of my Toyotas with it and I like how it's holding up. It never seems to dry out. Places with high pressure water splashing on them does seem to blast it off, but those places are all easy access. 10 minutes every fall brings me right back up to full protection.

Would you recommend removing the current undercoat at the contact points and adding fluid film?

I don't think it would make a big difference. As long as the original material is not flaking off, I would just FF it good then bolt on the sliders.
