Just noticed that my OEM hitch doesn't have the bolts connecting it to the OEM bumper. Can anybody send me a part number for these bolts? Or a size for them so I can try and find replacements?

    Thanks.

Looks like the part number includes the receiver and the bolts. I think they are m14 and length won't matter as long as they're long enough.

I wonder why those bolts are there between the OEM bumper and the OEM hitch.

On my Gen-1 there are just bolts on the frame to the hitch. No connection between the receiver hitch and bumper. On the Gen-2 there are double the number of bolts on the frame to the hitch. The load from the hitch is supposed to be transferred to the frame with a receiver hitch. You may ask why am I telling you this.

Back up a couple of months ago when I pulled my boat/trailer the first time with my new 2nd gen Tacoma I had a surprise at the end of the day. The boat and trailer is about 3500-4000lbs. Tounge weight is 275lbs. Well under the maximum tow limits and tounge weight. After I parked the boat/trailer and put the truck back into the garage I noticed the bumper was drooping (I should of taken a pic, my bad). The bumper was not bent. The conclusion I came to was the receiver hitch to frame was not tightened to specs at the factory.

I loosened all bolts between the frame and receiver hitch, and removed the two bolts between the bumper and receiver hitch. Repositioned the bumper to where was supposed to be. I have not installed the vertical bumper to hitch bolts yet. Without those bolts attached, the hitch is not mechanically tied to the bumper. I wanted to tow some with only the load going to the frame without a chance of bending the bumper. So far no more movement of the receiver hitch after towing. I will eventually replace those bumper to receiver hitch bolts, but I am not in a hurry.

Back to my Gen-1 that has no coupling between the receiver hitch and the bumper. Are those bumper to hitch bolts needed?
