2014 Access Cab with six foot box.

I have comming in a few days a Leer brand DCC aluminum canopy for my new truck. When it gets here the vendor will fasten it on with some large clamps.

This seems hoaky to me. Has any body on here bolted down their canopy on a recent model Taco?

I have yet to take off the inner fenders on the rear. I am expecting to be able to see up to the underside of the bed sides. As my truck has rather bulky plastic trim peaces over top of the bed sides. I am interested in the experience of others who have bolted this all together.

Any hints for a nice clean and weather proof install would be welcome!

No problems for me for almost 5 years with the Leer bed rail bolting system on my Leer 100RCC commercial cap

There is nothing under the bedsides to fasten through that is stronger

    Thanks.

Not so much worried about stronger. I am planning some minimal furnishings for camping and see the clamps as big lumps to be worked around. I had thought of perhaps making strips of metal with nuts tacked on and gluing them up to the bottom surface of the bed sides so that I could unbolt the canopy for removal.

My Leer is the same. Very minimal clamping system using bed rails.

So the canopy arrived and, as I anticipated, I am not happy with the clamping system.

    Snugtop cab high canopy.
That is pretty hokey, the bolts on mine go through holes in the canopy sides and have t-nuts in the bed rails.

The tail gate is currently a full inch below the hatch cover.

I am thinking this canopy is better down on the metal bed sides. With it dropped down the back will be more secure and the sides might have a chance of being weather tight.

At the moment the meal ril is bent down at the clamping points a fair bit. I think I need to take the thing off, straighten out the metal on the canopy, then remove the plastic bed caps and bolt it down.

    Fixed it!

Off with the plastic bed caps. Now the canopy is about an inch lower. A much cleaner installation.

do you remember which height camper you ordered with the wedge? was it 23" to 26" or 23" to 30"? Im ordering one and 23 is higher than my cab as i measure but I dont know where they measure from? I'm just doing it from the bed rail behind my cab rear windows...
