I’ve been looking into boost kits for my truck for some time but as I’m nearing the point of actual purchase I want to definitively find out what to do. I know most people are gonna say not to boost the engine but I have made up my mind to do so, so I just want help from there. I want something low boost so it’s not too much stress on the motor so I went to lce and narrowed it down to 2 kits the low boost s/c and the low boost turbo. I really like the idea of both but I want to not sacrifice to much reliability on my daily driver. The truck is curently breaching 180,000 miles and it’s got plenty left to go. So let me know your experience with these or hey if you know a better kit I’m all ears.

    first

set a baseline of Ur engine to KNOW what U are dealing with

have a look at the plugs

while out do a cold compresssion / cold leak down tests

both let U know IF Any remedial work needs to be done before boosting

boosting a high mileage engine always chancy

after install U will need a ‘ Tune ‘ source a good out thats compatible

for the $$$$$ U might be better off with a rebuilt or new engine

Have you done a search? There are tons of folks who've boosted their trucks.

But if you just want "moderate" power gains without sacrificing reliability, maybe a 3.4 swap will work for you as well. You could sell the 3rz to help recoup some of the costs, too.

I’ve thought about the 3.4 but if I did boost I would make more hp at what I would guess better gas mileage

Also the s/c is much easier to install right? As far as I know I can install the s/c myself but the turbo is a whole different thing which would result in a lot more money.

the tune makes a supercharger or a turbo a good deal

without a proper tune its a headache with little additional performance

    install is easy ..............true

getting it to run right across the entire RPM range is where the rubber

    meets the road

a high mileage engine is not sharp to start with

small gains lead to modest reward

to much & U have a junk pile
