Anyone know the part number for the c clip used to do this? I've now been given three differentry part numbers from toyota ando ordered 6 incorrect c clips.
I'm trying to do the method with the 3/8 peice of the old boot and one c clip.

I used a 1" inner diameter snap ring. Could also just get a whole boot kit and get the clip from there and have spare parts.

I know can use a snap ring. They are just kinda thin and flimsy. Was trying to get one of the actual cost clips without buying about damn boot kit.

I thought the problem was because of the angle with lifted trucks and only affecting the outter boot? That's what blew on mine anyway. I have an ugly angle on mine with just toytecs 3 inch lift. I've only blown one since 07 when I put the lift on but very little wheeling to this point. That's about to change and I'm wondering what to do to alleviate this.

I'll be rebuilding some CV's soon. Curious if anyone had tried clamping the cut off boot end with the lower profile CV band clamps instead of the having the two ears sticking out from the circlip? I've got a few of those sitting around from my previous days as a tech. I have access to the circlips also from the hardware stash at work if this is the preferred method.

Can this be done without removing the entire axle? Can the outer end of the inner boot be unclamped, pushed back toward the diff, slip the "C" ring in the groove and SOMEHOW get the rubber spacer/grommet in front of it and slide the outer in over all that and clamp it tight?

in short no..... It takes an extra 30 seconds to pull the axle out and it will save you so much time and headache to do it out of the truck

If you have the axle torn down enough to do this mod, it takes an extra 30 seconds to pop it out of the front diff.
I can have one out and rebuilt and back in the truck in about 45 minutes....

Oh. I wasn’t planning on pulling it. That’s why I asked the question I did.

If your gonna do this mod you have to separate from the knuckle and disassemble the outer joint. Why not take the extra 30 seconds and just remove the whole axle so you can work on the bench or tailgate or what ever. It would save so much time.

Ok so all that I've read and understood refers to the inner boot. is there any reason i should worry about my outer boot? it seems like the fins could possibly be too close together. just recently put OME lift and diff drop on, have not received my UCA's in the mail yet. is this something that can be done to outer boots?

No need, they will flex at the outer joint much more with suspension travel, where the inner is more constant angle. Touching is not an issue for them.

Guess I’m gonna have to look into this mod. After installing my OME lift, both inner C.V. boots are spooging grease from the end. They aren’t torn at all, just leaking past the clamp at the end.

New axels with lifetime warranty. 2months later the outer boot torn on right side. No wheeling or anything just normal driving. Is this somewhat normal (bad luck)

Which axles? Places like Autozone and Pep Boys sell their own brands with life time warranties but they are much weaker/less quality than OEM. Only good thing about those is the lifetime warranty so you can replace them for free, but they don't tend to last very long. 2 months is really short but it happens, especially if you're lifted 3"
