that helps. I would just get a camping/hiking shoe then.... VVVVV What Jandrews said...
Check out REI as well. Spend a little bit of money on a nice pair. It makes a HUGE difference and they will last you a while. Get waterproof boots too. Can't tell you how many times I stepped in a puddle, socks got soaked and had a few miles left with a 15lb backpack on me until I wised up and invested in a nice pair of backpacking/waterproof boots

edit: forgot... make sure it comes up a little over the ankle to support it in case you roll your ankle while hiking.

If you want a quality pair of boots, i wear Georgia Boots nearly every single day, but im not sure i would suggest them for hiking.

I have narrow feet and the Vasque Zephyr 2s are wonderful, more comfortable than my running shoes. Had em for about 5 years now, holes in leather but still waterproof from the goretex. Love em.

Sounds like a good pair of hiking boots will do the trick for you then. You need some over the ankle boots that are comfy yet durable, and can put up with some dirty work around the house. Heavy leather work boots aren't really needed for what you're doing. My advice would be to go to your local outdoors store, be it cabella's, dicks, bass pro, or whatever, and try on lots of them. When you find a pair that's comfy walk around in them for 5-10 minutes. After you're satisfied with them, write the name of them down and the size that fits you best, and put them back on the shelf. Go home, and read reviews on the boot you were looking at, how long it lasted for people and any problems they may have had. You don't know, they might fall apart when they get wet, or they may attract bears, or be really slippery on smooth/wet surfaces. After you've read enough, and you still have decided that that's your boot, find them for a good price online, or go to your local outdoors shop and pick up a pair. Good luck!

These are nice, but the tread doesn't look aggressive enough and I'm worried by looking at the pictures, that the sole would separate.

Is it really necessary to have the sole stitched onto the shoe vs. glued?

Just bought some Wolverines today. The cheap "waterproof" boots from Academy weren't so waterproof, so I upgraded a little... same price too :D

Depends on application...most of the time, ankle "support" is more a hindrance than a help. I think this is one of the greatest misconceptions in outdoor footwear ever.

Best brand of boots I have ever worn hands down. Im in the U.S army and these Merrell's are far better than anything I've been given. I beat the hell out of my footwear, walk through streams, mud, climbing and they take it better than anything. Check out the "shoes" as well they have gore-tex sneakers that kick ass as well.

I know everybody's trying to help you, but I think you're mainly getting answers for everybody's personal favorite, which doesn't really equate to what you should get. If you're looking for something that will last, stick with name brand first. Vasque, Asolo, Merrel, you get the idea. Secondly, if you want something for hiking and something breathable, you should probably be looking for a leather/fabric combo boot without gortex or equivalent waterproof lining. Look for a boot with a Vibram sole and you'll be sure it'll last a good long while, but at the same time there are many without Vibram that work just as well. I've got a pair of Asolo's that are about 5 years old and are finally starting to wear out. They're split grain leather with gortex liner and fairly light weight. I'd look at these sites for the best price, probably best to go to a store and try some different brands on, see what you like and see what size you need, and then buy online from:
    REI-outlet
    sierra trading post
    campmor

I have had them all over the years. They are all basicly the same most of the higher end boots all use soles made by vibram. What makes a boot comfortable is the flexability of the sole. I love Danner boots, i have 2 pairs. one for working on the farm, yard, etc. http://www.danner.com/boots/dannerr-light-iitm-mens-womens-hiking-boots.html and another for hunting, they have never touched pavement http://www.danner.com/boots/explorertm-mens-womens-hiking-boots.html. after 3 or 4 times wearing them, the soles are broke in, and they feel awsome. I add some gell inserts, and another thin insole, and they rock. you can run across them on ebay
for $100 to $150. I would go ahead and get some good ones, they will last a very long time.
