    Hey guys.

Having an issue here. My stock muffler on my truck rusted out so I decided to upgrade to a Borla Pro xs (14"x19"x5" 2.5 center on center) specifically because reviews have praised the nice exhaust note without any drone what-so-ever. However, after installing it today it creates a terrible cab drone at 1800-2100 rpms (like migraine inducing bad). The only modification I have to the truck is a basic K&N intake, stock otherwise. Any ideas how to get rid of the drone? Would changing the position of the muffler help (such as moving it further or closer to the engine)? I love the sound otherwise.

    Its a 2006 Tacoma 2.7L 5sp 4x4 with extended cab for reference.

Moving the muffler forward or back won't really effect anything unfortunately. IMO you have two options, weld in a resonator or replace the muffler completely. I have a flowmaster super 40 delta flow and have been really happy with it, sounds great, no drone, and I've even received complements from non-Tacoma guys.

Borla makes a resonator exhaust tip. I had one welded on my Borla exhaust to tame the sound.
I have the 4.0 and didn't have the drone but got tired of the number of people wanting to race. (Mine is not the XS)

Im running the proXS muffler on my 4.0 and the drone was pretty bad until I added a helmholtz resonator.

Thanks. I'll try a couple of those things out.

@tacotiming, This is what I bought:

BORLA 20248 Universal Performance Exhaust Tip 2.25" Single Inlet / 4" Round Angle-Cut Single Outlet 12" Long Resonated Lined Polished T-304 Stainless Steel Weld On Design

This is my review in 2019 after a couple years of driving:

5.0 out of 5 stars Tamed the cat back beast

Very nice quality product from Borla. This replaced the stock non resonated tip on a Borla S type cat back system installed on my '06 Tacoma 4X4. The tip came polished to a chrome look. The inlet is 2.25" and the outside diameter is 4".
The one I received was exactly 12" long and the one it replaced was 13" long so it is shorter sticking out the back.
This exhaust tip really quieted down the roar. I got tired of having other vehicles try and race me since the Borla S type exhaust can be rather loud. The new sound is what I was looking for. Still throaty but subdued.
