I don't necessarily agree with that. The drivers side gets used significantly more than the passenger side over the course of 20 years... The portions of the handles that are breaking aren't exposed to the sun unless they are open, so the UV degradation is not a likely culprit. If my drivers side broke, I wouldn't rush out and replace the passenger side.

I can still get in the broken one so I've been putting it off. Not being able to open either would definitely suck though.

The passenger side breaks just as easy even unused so if you want to risk it then by all means.

Probably doesn't help much in icy weather, but both mine broke, so when I replaced them I took it apart, door panel and everything I could get to and lubricated the crap out of it so it so it worked with very little effort.

Just had this problem this morning. Entire handle and arms came out though, so nothing to screw into to pull. Flat head screw driver in top right corner of driver door and a coat hanger got me back in. Passenger side was already broken when I got the truck, rear slider has yard stick Charley-bar, so couldn't go that way either.

FYI, silicone your door seals well a couple times in the winter, it's why I have never broken a door handle in [more then a few] decades of driving up north. Dry door seals stick like week old oatmeal.

I'm glad this got resurrected, if just for the link to the all metal door handle upgrade. I had this happen a few winters back. I definitely default to OEM, but the price difference between OEM and aftermarket handles was huge...And there's either OEM, or dirt cheap. No mid-range. Both the dirt cheap handles broke again the next winter, so I finally went with OEM. But in all my internet and Amazon searching, I never found those metal handles.

There are a couple of points inside the door that need greasing once in a while, too. I have seen the handles break because things aren't moving freely inside as they should.
