It currently has 285/70R17 tires on it with the spacer lift. I want to remove the lift and get stock sized tires, but if I can get away with running the tires that came with the pickup for a while longer it saves me some money...

Towing my VW Golf on a dolly seemed fine, obviously not approaching the speed limit on steep hills, but acceptable. I did cringe a little with the amount of clutch slip required to get going in first, but this was also the same day I bought the pickup, so that can probably be minimized next tow after I'm used to the rig. Figure 3,000lbs for the car and 750lbs for the stout U-Haul dolly, it was 3,750 lbs. This was a 100 mile tow. There was one steep and narrow grade (narrow enough that the state didn't bother painting a centerline) where I just stuck it in third and cruised, keeping an eye on the right mirror to keep the dolly's wheel about six to twelve inches from the guard rail. I didn't bother with 6th gear, but on the flats 5th was fine. It was more comfortable than towing an '86 Land Cruiser HJ60 on a dolly behind my '01 Sequoia!

I would bet on rubbing. They’re not ideal, but I’ve seen people dump the stock 4Runner grandtreck tires with no miles for 3-400. If you want to get into something less expensive, that would be worth a look. You’d probably recoup most or more than that from selling your tires if they have decent tread.
