After I realized what I had on my hands I found that the inner c on the dana 44 was never rotated do I have to remove the axle and cut and rotate them or can I leave it under the truck and is 5 degrees to much or set it at zero thanks the part number on the front spring say 8in spring but I'm not exactly sure what size lift it is please help this is the last thing on my list to get this thing rolling thanks 20201202_142243.jpg

@#T-coma97, there's a SAS specific forum, might try posting over there, too...

It's fine. Leave the axle how it is. You're better off pulling a couple of those leaves out and getting it lower. That will help with some of you issues.

Edit: More pics too! Let's see what you're working with!

Your at a crossroads with this axle. From the pic (more pics will tell) it appears they cut the factory perches off, rotated the pinion, and then welded the new ones on but forgot to turn the Cs to set appropriate caster (5 to 8* positive aka rotated back towards the rear of the truck). Does wonders for the pinion, but drivability suffers greatly.

    Two options:

    1. Cut the Cs and rotate it properly and keep the pinion and current DS angle which looks semi decent as long as that's now a CV style and not 2 ujoint out of phase... http://d44tech.com/CutandTurn_Main.html

    2. Cut the perches, set pinion back to factory spec and weld on spring perches to gain back the caster that was lost due to rotating the pinion. But lose pinion angle and if a CV driveshaft you'll need to go to a single u joint at either end to be phased correctly.

Good call. I didn't even notice that. It looks like it was a spring under that was converted to spring over.

OP: get your suspension figured out with your ride height, then redo the perches or cut and turn the Cs if needed. You're fixing the cart before the horse so to speak.

So lowering it with smaller springs would work and redo the spring perches

You can pull springs from the spring packs you have. Start at the bottom or middle bottom and play with it until you like the height. You're definitely going to need to redo the spring perches after you get the ride height figured out. You're worried about something that comes after setting ride height.

If you don't want to take the springs apart and you like them the way they are, you can French the shackles.

Caster definitely needs to be fixed, your actually reading about 5 degrees negative camber. Putting you actually around 10 degrees in the wrong direction.

Though that tierod looked like it was pointing down too much. That'll fix that issue too. Pull some springs as said and get ride height you want. Then cut n turn the Cs and keep the pinion where its at.

As others have mention, start by removing leaf from the pack. I would start by removing 2-3 lowest leaf and go from there. Unless you have money to burn, you can order new leaf but I don't see any reason not to unpack those first. I notice for the front, there's a ~1" spacer between the perch and leaf, trash that along with the 2-3 leaf and I think you'll be golden. As for the rear, trash the 3" block and go from there.

To measure leaf spring (make sure leaf spring is remove from vehicle and bare no weight):
-measure front eye to rear eye
-measure front eye to center pin
-measure rear eye to center pin
