It is hard to imagine that someone would pass on that piece of rusted junk to a paying customer.

    Was it a Toyota Dealer?

If they refuse the refund I would consult a lawyer.

    Hey,

It was a Toyota Dealer. They showed me the inspection and gave it a rating of 96 out of 100. The carfax was flawless, showed no accidents. Because Im a dudette, I took the car to a mechanic to make sure everything was in working order (figured I was going to be ok since I signed the 30 day guarantee (lemon law). First thing the mechanic said when he looked under the car, was that it had been in an accident because the rear bumper had been replaced. Anyway, thank you all for your support and I'll report back.

I would give the dealer a chance to make it right by getting you a free frame replacement. Most Toyota dealers will do this to avoid negative press. This would be an ending that both sides would be happy with especially if the rest of the truck checks out fine cosmetically and mechanically.

I'm with Wattapunk ^^^ but please keep us posted. The stealer knew what they were trying to selling because they likely inspected it for trade purposes with the previous owner to determine its value. If the stealer does not do the right thing I for one would like to know who it is, so eventually name some names.

Wow. I’m going to venture a guess that they never inspected. I can’t imagine they would put themselves in the position to assume that liability if they had. On the other hand, hard to believe they wouldn’t inspect it knowing that these frames rust.

Yikes! Even if they do stand behind the frame I would pass this info on to the corporate office- clearly there is enough ambiguity in their inspection practices to allow for some unsafe things to slip through the cracks.

Toss the Name of the Dealer out that way if they give you a hard time a lot of comments hitting them about selling "Bad" vehicles may certainly drive a change of the mindset to stop the bad press about them.

If the dealer gives you a hard time take a picture of all the NY ST registered repair shop, inspection shop and dealer plaques on the building and contact NY ST DMV with your issue and the numbers on the plaques. They can help you get your money back and they will also make it very expensive for the shop that inspected that truck. You get refunded and move on and it will save someone else from getting screwed by that dealer.

96/100! This dealership clearly needs a pony ride out front to mask all the bullshit from inside the building.

When I bought my truck, during the course of a "150 point inspection" they somehow missed an 18 inch stick jammed in between the gas tank and gas tank straps. I don't think they do much inspecting.

Going by this, I'd say you're safe. Just get your full refund & move on. If the dealer balks, contact the mother ship (Toyota.com/customer service), and be sure to mention the 96/100 dealer inspection rating. They damn sure knew the condition of that truck, and being out of the 12yr warranty period, hoped to pass it off on an unsuspecting customer (you). They assumed you were too naïve to have your own inspection done. Good for you, ya done good, & you beat 'em at their game.

Please let us know the outcome!

Honestly, with this being a Toyota dealer and not a local dealer, I can't see them NOT making this right.

This is the kind of thing the local consumer advocate news reporters drool over and they would be on this like Amy Schumer at a buffet.

I do agree with the others though, don't accept them "fixing" this one.

Get your refund and move on to something else.

I would give the dealer a chance to make it right before flaming them. But once they put up a fight — yeah, release hell on them.

Wow. Thank you so much for all your support. The dealer is telling me that the mechanic is not in today to inspect the car. I’m going there regardless to show them the mechanics report.
