They are going to try to get the 30 days to expire. Take it there and park it on their lot with a sign stating what they did. If they don’t take care of you.

Let them know you had your own mechanic look at it and you don't want it. Their "mechanics" already gave it a 96/100, who gives a shit what they have to say.

    ^This.

@nineteen64 , don’t let them not take it back.

You don’t say where you’re from but I would check your state laws on fraudulent representation during automobile sales. There might be enhances penalties...

Take today to research before going back to the dealer. Know what your rights are.

    Good Luck:thumbsup:

I'd tell the salesman to get on his butt and climb under the truck to see the holes in the frame.

So here in Vt a dealer is not allowed to sell a vehicle that will not pass state inspection unless buyer knows and vehicle is documented as such.
Our DMV would be all over them.
Did they do a state inspection?
    I’m assuming NY is similar.

An "inspection" almost never means the vehicle goes up on a rack. Its crap like bulbs, battery, fluid levels etc. Only stuff that your typical Joe who buys a car would think to ask about.

I would use this as a bargaining chip for a newer Tacoma with a hefty discount. Yes, they’re shady but they wasted your time/money and put your life at risk. I would be demanding more than just taking the truck back. They likely won’t try to screw you over again since they know you’ll do your due diligence and have it inspected. Find another truck you like, look it up on blue book in the cheapest configuration and take an additional amount off the top that you think is right.

If they won’t give you a good deal just tell them you’re sending a complaint to to corporate, reporting this to local news and releasing their information forums like this.

Of course, do what makes you feel comfortable but I would make it rain hell.

I'm skeptical that the one and only mechanic that can inspect the vehicle, is not there today. But l guess it's possible.
Anyone can see a whole in the frame and says it's dangerous.
Print off what @uurx posted. That and your mechanics report will show them that you know what you are talking about.
Hopefully they don't try and stall you.
Keep records of every phone call and visit, including date and time and who said what. Also get the names a business cards of anyone that you speak to.
You may not need it. But if this get nasty later on, they'll become documentary evidence of the steps that you have taken.

If it were me, I wouod tell them that I was told the vehicle was unsafe to drive and they need to put it on a lift so the GM can inspect it.

Bring it up to the dealer, but if NY is anything like most other states, the dealership can sell you a total piece of garbage and get away with it if you signed an “as is” document, which also includes frame rust. Brand name dealer or local small town dealer, doesn’t matter.

though sometimes the dealership may offer a return period or some such and you can bail out that way.

Anything beyond that is getting into consumer law.

That's the main problem with carfax. For an accident to show up on the car it has to go through Insurance, or there has to be a police report on the car. So it's easy to leave off the accidents. When buying a used car you can often see if it's been in an accident by looking at the panel gaps. They're almost never 100 percent correct. Also it's weird that a toyota dealer would only have one mechanic working that day. Are you sure it wasn't a shady used car lot? I'm surprised when your mechanic raised that car on the lift it didn't buckle and get bent out of shape with the condition that frame is in.

If the frame doesn’t fold in half 1st, this could result in loss of front brakes. Someone has been doing some very sloppy maintenance on this truck. You don’t want it, no matter what the dealer tries to do to get you to keep it.

No matter what they tell you i would contact toyo corp just to inform them -Your Taco is an unsafe truck
When they did the frame on my 05 they didnt put the new lead springs just put them in the bed and told me mine were fine
Toyo keep sending me notices to get them done and the dealer wouldn't do it
Other dealers said they couldn't touch it because frame was done by other dealer
Long story short - After a year I called toyo corp and the next day dealer called and was suddenly super nice and put springs in.
Toyo corp also told me if they dont fix it let them know

    @nineteen64 welcome to TW.:hattip:
I'm shocked a TOYOTA dealer sold that truck to you. They were well aware of the frame issue. How could they not be? To not look at it having knowledge of the frame replacement campaign, would be negligent on their part, IMO.
In any event, best of luck in getting it straightened out.
