I was looking at the prices of the full featured homeplow with left and right angle, about the same as my western. I dont know which is better, but i would prefer the mount of the western over the 2" hitch mount, just my opinion

Is a there a running thread out there that discusses day to day plow experience/questions? We could all share tips and tricks for plowing with a tacoma

My drive falls about 60' in 900'! If there is a lot of snow drive back up where you just plowed and then go back down on the other side. I'm in no hurry been retired for 9 years there is benefit to that I plow when I want so I can stay ahead of the storm. Please note I'm in the mountains of western Maine.

Mine is not quite that long, but steeper. I know the angle is roughly 15 deg, and im guessing 120', so maybe a 30' drop over that, then another 120' of slight incline fairly flat at the top.

ok, so first report, baptism by fire. Im sure everyone who plows know what their first time plowing was like, uncoordinated S$%^ show. On top of that, my first experience came during a 2 day 21" storm. Overall, im pretty happy. Not many people are going to have a driveway as difficult as mine. I had to plow 3 times, and by the end i was getting the hang of it, and the best directions to take etc. The tacoma did great. I only have Michelin defender all seasons on and the tires actually did awesome for what they are. I do have some snow tires coming, but if i had a flat drive, i would have just stuck with the Michelin's.

I will also add some thoughts about the Western defender plow. Scrapes well, and back drags ok to for a lightweight plow. If there is one con, if you call it that, its a direct hydraulic lift, so stacking is limited. That being said, i have probably 4-5 ft snowbanks already, so maybe not so limited. But, how much stacking do you want to do anyway with a lightweight setup. After the first storm, its a good plow. Longevity, time will tell. If anyone has any questions, fire away.

    Need vs. want.
Here is the thing about a snow plow; the weight is cantilevered out forward of the front wheels, which means that you are going to lose back end traction when you are carrying it, unless you have something in the back to counterbalance it. I keep a couple of plastic boxes of sand, about 400 pounds total, in the bed. If I'm carrying the plow, I position them right to the back of the bed. If I'm not carrying the plow, I position them to the front.
I wouldn't worry too much about driving with it. Obviously it will take its toll on the truck if you're doing it ALL of the time, but the occasional run during the winter to avoid having to put the plow on and off daily when you're getting hit with frequent storms... no problem. My commute is a bit longer than yours, and my plow is about +200 pounds over yours.

Toy.. that would be the 4wheeler. Truck is a TOOL. Use it. No point in having tools to just look at.

I looked at a quad, and after this first storm, the quad would have been sitting in the garage, or having to plow every 30 minutes
