I always chuckle and roll my eyes when people talk about their Long Bed as well. The Tacoma literally doesn't come with a Long Bed option haha just short and really really short.

I love my little Pickup, but I can fit just about as much stuff into a hatchback (albeit destroying more interior materials along the way).

I know! it is kinda funny...heck, in my old line of work, even 1 Ton pickups were kinda of useless...basically used them to service the bigger trucks.

Really like the Tacomas, however not really a vehicle intended for heavy work.

They're great for some weekend exploring, wheeling and hauling appliances and yard work materials. But I agree, not a heavy duty work truck in any way.

I do miss my full size eight foot bed sometimes, but even that I just considered a normal everyday yard work and motorcycle hauling truck.

I originally started buying Toyotas when I used to work construction, wanted something small and zippy for running back and forth to work to playing on the weekends. Nice break from having to drive the big trucks and heavy equipment during the week. lack of a better word...felt like a Toy compared to the other machines I used to operate.

No longer work construction but still own Toyotas. I have a 5X8 trailer...so that is more or less my 8' truck bed, honestly like that better than my old F250...don't have to lift stuff so high...it practically loads itself.

get the subie in 3 weeks, they had to custom-build on account of, you know, the manual

looking at a Canadian Taco in '19, sure as hell hope it's a lot easier to do than on this go-around

Forester is a great vehicle. Responds well to a small lift and oversized tires if you like as well.

Considering most folks on here get a 4x4 Pickup, lift it, and throw Mud Terrains on it just to drive it anywhere a Honda Fit could go, I'd say it doesn't much matter... ha.

I'd prefer a Sub in the snow/ice anyway. Just not off road, of which a muddy dirt road isn't.

Bought my little bro a 2003 Forester back when he went to High School or College or something. I stole that thing all the time. It was kind of ridiculous how hard it was to get it stuck or even spin it out on ice. I've been impressed ever since. I'd never consider another AWD system as far as the main ones go. Honda and Toyota's AWD are an atrocity ha.

I've regretted every single automatic I've bought thinking it wasn't that big of a deal. Some of us are more about the driver experience and being the one in control of the vehicle that even, idk, what tread looks cool or eyelids.

Some of us with automatics are about the driver experience too! I live outside of DC and would never ever in a million years put myself through the hell of creeping through 2 hours of stop and go traffic with a MT ever again. :)

    Wait I'm confused.

You needed an OR Access Cab 4x4 so you bought a Forrester?

Ummm, so you didn't really need it??

I'll admit it's not something I look forward to but I'm so used to it that it doesn't bother me, you get used to it. I give myself enough room between me and the car in front of me to where I can just creep along in 1st most of the time without having to constantly come to a stop.

I did it for 4 years, but to be fair, much of that was coming home from working a 12-hour overnight shift. Probably would have lost it at something else if it wasn't the MT haha.

Yeah I understand, I'm also lucky in that I live in the outskirts of Los Angeles where traffic isn't that terrible. If I lived downtown or (god forbid) on the west side, I'd likely be singing a different tune. But even with an automatic I'd be a very angry person if I had to deal with that kind of traffic every day lol.

For real lol. Strongly considered trading in my second vehicle for an Enduro to drive around the traffic for a time. Figured I would probably be shot or killed eventually, so invested in audiobooks instead.

I drive in LA traffic almost daily. I'd hate to have an Auto.

My point was merely that some of us love MT and the driving experience that comes with one, but have purchased ATs for equally valid reasons. Although I also understand that the poster you were responding to was saying that he doesn't understand why people care so much.

I would love to have one in my truck for certain scenarios, but have acknowledged 80% of my truck's mileage will be the result of wimpy commuting, sometimes in traffic. Thankful to have the extra hand free so I can wipe the tears from my eyes when I see more badass trucks passing. :(

EDIT: I legitimately appreciate all the mods y'all folks do to your trucks. I would love to do the same in the future when my needs are different, or when I'm loaded.
