    Hey guys,

I’ve owned a couple third gens and I picked up a 2018 completely stock trd off road that for the most part is super clean. Only has 20k miles on it. Looks like it’ll be a lot of fun.

anyway, I didn’t crawl under it much because its such a clean truck I didn’t think I’d need to. On the drivers side, back near the rear wheel, the frame looks a little wonky to me. Not sure if this is how they are shaped and can’t seem to remember what my others looked like. This one also has some rubberized stuff sprayed in all the creases and welds. Again, not sure if my others had this. It almost feels like caulk.

anyway, what are your thoughts? Looks normal or not so much?

The rubber stuff is rust proofing they put in the frames to try to stop them from rusting up so bad.

The wavy part of the frame im not sure on though, doesnt look right to me.

Is it something to be concerned about? I plan to put some rock sliders on it anyway but wasn’t sure if it’s something I need to be worried about or not.
Truck drives straight and true with no issues.

also, the gas tank hangs a little lower than the frame right there. I’m surprised there could be trail damage on the frame and not the tank cover.

If it’s not too much work, would you mind posting a picture so I can see what it looks like on yours?

My 2017 that had 23k miles when I bought it this February looks way cleaner than that underneath. Like factory clean. No rust either. My frame doesn't look like the pics of yours.

I’m not concerned about the rust at this point. I’m referring to the bend (dent?) in the frame. I plan to clean the underside and hit it with fluid film.

I understand. Still think it's nothing to worry about. It's a used vehicle. Gonna be a battle scar or 2 on it

Thanks for the pictures. It’s actually not dirt, it’s that caulk or rust proofing in there. I might drill it out a bit so it has proper drainage.

interesting. Your frame looks almost a bit crinkled, but not bent down. Is that from trail damage?

See this is how u take a pic. I don't understand how people ask for an opinion on something and take terrible pictures, "does this look bent / angled?" Takes a 45* pic.

Those wrinkles, if close to a bend or curve, are a result of the forming process and are normal. Metal has to give when forced to move sideways or up and down.

Wire brush that area, clean it up and have a good look at it. Then paint it and you're good.

Hey, douche, if you’d like better pictures, just ask. I took these after midnight in a parking garage. I was holding a flashlight with one hand and my phone in the other. I will absolutely take better pictures once I wash it and can get under it easier.

to everyone else with helpful advice, thanks. I appreciate it.

Here's 2 pics I just took of my 2020 TRD Off Road and it looks the same as your pictures. I do not have any off or on road damage.
