Bought a used topper... need front and rear glass

A benefit to making your own template is that you can make sure it fits incase anything is a little off. We've made them for customers before and this always works best. It also should save you money as its less work for the shop to deal with. All they do is trace your template onto a piece of glass and then cut the magic marker line, seam it (remove sharp edges) and semi round the corners then send it off to be tempered.

Otherwise they could measure it and pic the shape that matches the pic their supplier uses and put in dimensions and let them cut and produce it but fit will likely be off unless they have the edges polished which will cost you more.

Talk to an auto glass shop - you essentially want whats called a zipper gasket or something along those lines. The glass that fit in there was either 1/8" or 3/16" but could vary depending on the gasket available. It'll be an easier install if you stick with tempered glass - Laminated will be available buy you'll likely break 3 before you get one installed.

Alright so your saying to have glass made for the front and back , both tempered . So I'll need to make a template for both the front and rear , out of 1/4 plywood .

Also that I'm going to need a seal for the front. I'll try googling for one when I get home later.

I only have the rubber gasket for the bottom of the back door. Could I use silicone for the rest of the gasket?

Hopefully I didn't bite off more then I can chew taking on this project

That's pretty well it. If you can find a good stiff solid piece of cardboard you can use that to fit the rear glass as well. Do you have a gasket for the metal frame on the rear? It's important to get the glass thickness right - not rocket science but is important.

As for the front you may want to take a pic of what you have as it sits. I assume it had a single fixed piece in the front originally and that both the glass and molding are gone?

No the hole was cut for a boot, and no I don't have gasket material for the rear just for the bottom of it

EDit: Bought some dura glass and some loctite glue today $55.00 out the door.

found the window seal stuff, about $60.00 , thats not including the window ill need to be made. After i talk to the glass guy tomorrow ill see what route ill take with it.

update: dropped off my old rear frame to the glass shop for them to put it together. Silicone and all... $125 installed. local topper shop told me $399 for a whole new assembly.

after dropping my POS frame off, i finally came to my senses and realized its worth the extra cash, it just needs too much work. So i called the glass shop ( left a message) for them to cancel, hoping they didn't start on it yet since i dropped it off right before closing.

I really hope they didn't start on it yet.

The front window I'm gonna plexi and glue. I'll keep you all updated...

Well I mounted it on Sunday after I glued the plexiglass to the front opening and removed the old purple torn up tint. What a pain in the ass that was cutting the right size.

Then I got the exact fit clamps part no ac1043 .

Then used the 1 1/4" topper tape . I got off Amazon for $6.

After $422 , I had the rear door installed. Included the frame, struts, new lock , handle, keys . Everything.

Well worth the money.

Thanks! Yeah I'm really happy about it now. I was on the fence when it was first mounted , but the new door makes it feel like a new top
