This is an interesting thread revival/discussion. On topic- I could see the use of one of those things if you were in a city where parking was tight all the time.

Yes, it checks the ugly lady putting makeup to make her less hideous off my bumper. Need to put up a sign “ Makeup doesn’t help”.

I got rear-ended at a standstill from someone going probably about 30 or so. I got hit smack dab on the trailer hitch and literally only had my left bumper wing cracked. The tow hitch had some scuffs on it but it was fine. The other guy's minivan bumper/hood/radiator, etc were all toast and had to be towed. State patrol were pretty shocked to see zero damage to my tailgate/frame, etc since they were there for an existing accident (rubber necker hit me).

Now my back on the other hand...:annoyed:

There in lies the rub. You are sacrificing your frame and the collision absorption designed into your truck just to save the insurance companies some money.

    Lol not silly at all.
I bought one for my wife’s honda pilot and has saved her bumper many times from minor stuff at grocery parking lots.
You can actually remove buffers to where it doesnt stick out too much. If they made one that acts double as a hitch skid for offroading id have one for my tacoma too

My rear bumper was stock with the stock hitch back then. I'm sure if I was in a regular unibody car, the car would have had a lot more damage or have been totalled, but my back would have been better off (which I would prefer of course).

Sounds like a shitty deal. I’ve been contemplating a plate bumper for off-road and potential deer impact. But this is one reason why I’m not. These trucks need to crush in a legit wreck to protect the occupants and a plate bumper prevents that to a degree.

I'd like to see what the outcome of the curve point which usually crumples at impact is on frames on our trucks which have been boxed.

Agreed. This thing is pointless. Drop the tailgate

Once again. Saving the insurance companies money at the risk of transmitting that impact into the frame/occupants. Let the truck crumple and absorb some of that impact.

Considering the sparebumper for those lighter hits, taps, and collisions that aren't going to total the truck. Saves headaches and time when dealing with the adjustors on the lighter collisions.

Really depends on alot of factors.

I can agree with that if this thing was one or the other. But it’s not. And unfortunately we don’t get to pick what kind of accident we’re going to get into when we leave the house.

Based on the experienced reviews I'll take my chances using one.

To each his own. Hopefully it’s all just a precaution and none of us ever get to test our theory on whether we’re better off with or without.
