    Howdy yall!

I bought a used ‘01 SR w/ knowledge of “Engine tapping” on FB market ad and blown head gasket while discussing some issues around the truck. I’m 100% sure it’s a SR, 5 lug, V6, Ext cab, RWD, rear swap bar, R150 trans. The interior is fairly clean but the red paint is rough but no visible rust. For $1300, I felt it was worth fixing it up.

The PO had removed some parts exposing the cam gears, supposedly everything he took off is in the bed tool box. I looked, it’s mostly there. He mentioned there’s oil in the coolant but no coolant in the oil.

I’ve never fooled around w/ engine components. I have some experience with maintenance Honda 4cyl’s, Subaru Forester, and my ‘04 2RZ Tacoma. Been around my brothers when they’ve done engine swaps and I’m thinking I may go that route with dropping in another 5VZFE.

    My question about 5VZFE, when I’m on Car-part.com search salvage yards, there’s 3 options 5VZFE: Prerunner, Non-Prerunner, 4x4.

I noticed the prices varies with whichever I chose. Is there any difference that I need to be aware about amongst the options? Or 5VZFE’s from other vehicles like some 4Runners?

the 5vze is the 5vze, shouldn't matter if it came out of a 4x4 or Prerunner etc. The year might make some difference with regards to changes to emissions but I'm not very clear on those details.

S-runners are pretty rare these days, Toyota didn't make very many compared to other Tacomas. Would be nice to see one restored

Didn't Kelly's old 4Runner had a blown head gasket, right?
