    Confused/Need Help (long)

I do not post for the most part because I am such a novice, but I have searched and read but I am looking for advice from those with more experience and smarter than myself.

I have been shooting a PSE Nova for the past 8 years. I have decided to get a new bow and gotten approval from the CFO. I have done what most of us would do I think lots of reading and looking at websites and developed a short list of bows that I wanted to shoot at the pro shop.

Well I went today looked and shot some, but while shooting I was told that I need to be shooting a left handed bow. I was thrown off but realized why; I am left eye dominant but right handed.

To complicate this my left shoulder has a damaged rotator cuff but has been that way for 15+ years. I shot a Destroyer 340 at 61 lbs left handed with no problem. I typically shoot right handed at 65 lbs but have shot it at 70. Left handed the 61 lbs was not bad, but would probably back it down to 57lbs or so for my setup.

So, should I change and start shooting left handed bow or stay right-handed?

Depends on what you are more comfortable with. Some people shoot both eyes open some with one closed. My daughter is left eye dominate but she can not shoot left handed it was to hard for her. So she wears an eye patch and does just fine. Anyway it is not bad to be able to do both but I would shoot what feels the best with the shoulder and is more comfortable.

Yeah it sucks I am RIGHT (the correct) handed and left eye (wrong) handed dominant.
I am too old to change to left handed shooting and just make it work by closing my left eye.
Yes I know it is wrong but it works for me and gets the job done.
The bows out there are unbelieveable.
I have a Martin Cougar 2000 single cam and it shoots better than I can run it, so get something a year or two older and save a bunch of money and get a great bow.

I am left eye dominate and right handed. I shot guns left handed, but I choose to shot right handed bows because the market is better for right handed bows. If you have been doing it for years, I don't see a reason to change. You are using a peep, just use your right eye and close your left eye. It would be different if you were shooting a long bow and had to shot without a peep sight. Eye dominance only matters if you are shooting with both eyes open.

My daughter does certain things left handed and certain things right handed. Writing left, eating right, throws right, bats right/left, shoots gun left, shoots bow right. She's a lil' different.;):D

When she started in archery at 5 years old, she was more comfortable to shoot right handed and use her left eye,(left eye dominant). Rather than switch her, I got a nice 'puupy feet' patch to cover her left eye that she loved, and it trained her to use her right eye. She only used it for a year and she is now able to shoot with both eyes open using mainly her right eye to sight. She is 11 now and is a pretty good shot.

All that said, it also boils down to just do what is most comfortable.

That would be hard for me to do, I can't even swap to a new release. I think I'd just stay with what you've been doing. BTW that Bowtech Destroyer was nice wasn't it?

I liked the 340 better than the 350 but yes very nice. For the money the assassin and hoyt rampage xt are really nice. I shot the Z7e and personally like the Z7 better. trying to figure out want to do is frustrating....So many bows so little time.

Yeah, there's a ton of nice stuff out there. I'm still shooting a Bowtech General from 2007. I just love the smoothness and quiteness of this bow, plus the 8 1/2 brace is just so sweet. It's not the fastest, (heck my old Tribute was way faster) but at 285fps with a 425 grain arrow and only a 28in draw, with that and the noise level, I've just not found anything that makes me want a new bow. And that is very WEIRD for me....

just wait for the new bow to come out in a few more days. from what i understand it will be a split limb destroyer with stretched out limb pockets (so more of a center pivot like the general) and it is rumored to be around a 345 ibo bow. so it should be smoother and quieter then the destroyer and just as fast (and i thought the destroyer was smooth and quite!)
