Alright, thank you very much! im out in Simi BTW. I will take that and then apply for tags and get going on more range time and practicing. Thanks for everything and let me know when your going out, it would be nice to get some pointers once I get my bow.

AZ? You owe yourself a visit to the PSE factory. They sell blemish bows cheap. My first bow I got there. It was fun buying like that.

best advice i can give ya is make a good shot and use sharp broadheads. all bows nowadays are pretty decent you dont need a $1200 bow when you can get a bear for around 4-5. matthews are nice but theyre so dang high. actually just sold my bow last year for a crossbow, people hate em, until they shoot them. they are easier than a compound to shoot, but nowhere near a gun as people say they are. and you only get one shot because they are LOUD where with a compound you can get off multiple shots if you arent seen.

and before the "you arent a true hunter because you use a crossbow" comments start, i hunt to eat. we usually clean 5+ deer a year and eat them year round. its easier for me to put a deer down with a crossbow than a compound so i use one.

i think crossbows are sweet! only reason i wouldn't own one is because the crossbow season is the same as rifle, and I've always wanted a bolt action 223 or 308

Nothing wrong with a crossbow, hunt with what you want does not matter what anyone else thinks.

As for the bows, you can kill with any bow but there is a difference between a $400.00 bow and a $1000.00 bow. There is a reason target pro use the top of the line bows and fashion is not it. Again nothing wrong with a $400.00 bow but there is a difference.

I used to shoot a lot, I haven't shot in probably a year, I need to start shooting again.

But I used to shoot a reflex growler, its now sitting in a case under my bed waiting to be shot. it is definitely worth paying a bit more to get a really good compound bow (if your going compound, traditional is fun too). It makes a huge difference. I went from a 150$ (browning micro midas 3)bow to the growler. I will never go back. I have shot a friend of mines whisper creek that is tricked out for competition, and it worth probably 1500 and the difference between it and bow half that is pretty big. You don't need anything that expensive for hunting though.

good arrows make a big difference too, trust your local archery shop on those though, I don't know what is good anymore. I highly recomend finding a local archery shop versus Bass Pro

and make sure you get a good release, they help more than anything.
I love T handle releases, they are much more consistant for release the string. I switched from a wrist strap to a T handle and cut my group size in half. I like the Trueballs, they aren't cheap, but they are awesome

this is what I have, I got mine through a sponsored organization for 60 instead of 90, but it is definitely worth it.

the bow I used to shoot, except this is a stock picture of a bare bow

Sites and rests are personal preference, I like glow pins sites and drop away rests or shoot through rests. Avoid whisker biscuits unless you are using blazer vanes (short vanes), they shred your fletching otherwise....

I got mine from here actually, they did a good job, it surprised me. I ended up changing one thing on the bow (rest, since it came with one I didn't like). but it was well tuned, and set up well for me. Heck, the pins were even on pretty good for range wise.

Although those releases are nice they at pretty difficult to shoot for me, but that's prob because I'm so used to a wrist release. Benefit of the wrist release is u strap it on and it's always there. I'd prob lose that thing in the woods. Especially the mornings I fall asleep on a tree! Haha
