It doesn't matter if it's 10 years old or 10 days old. It's mine. If I want my truck to be in pristine condition that's my business. I spent 40k on my truck and I'm not gonna have it door dinged by some fatass soccer mom in stretch pants. I get that it's a pickup truck, but people have no right to damage somebody else's property. If you lived in and old house and somebody drove their car into the living room you would care.

Efff careless a-holes and parents that don't teach their kids to respect other peoples stuff but life is too short to stress on a door ding. Hasn't always been my perspective (I used to get very protective of my vehicles) but things change and you realize not to waste energy on things that don't really matter.

I think there's a big difference between somebody dinging your door at a parking lot and somebody destroying your home by crashing a car into your living room :D

Also...the 40K you spent on a truck are meaningless 5, 10 years down the road; whereas a property - ideally - is supposed to become an investment from which you can get a profit.

But you are correct on the issue of respecting other people's property no matter how big or small.

I didn't buy my truck to make money on it. I bought it because I wanted it. I buy plenty of other investment cars that I fix and flip( or keep if I like them enough) dollar sign shouldn't matter when it's somebody's property. So if I parked my 1500 dollar f4i in a parking lot and somebody knocked it over and cracked the fairings slightly it's no big deal?

My 1930 house is worth significantly more than my 2012 truck...apples to oranges.

A Toyota is an appliance....I love my truck but realize it is nothing more than a deprecating asset. It will be long gone in 80 years.

My father ran a service station for 30 years. He worked 6 days a week. He took care of his stuff and cared for other people's. This was something that he instilled in me as I helped him growing up. I now have a son who will be getting ready to drive soon and more than likely he will get my truck which I plan on giving him in as close to excellent condition as possible. If he wants something else I get good money to sell or trade. Some people just like to take care of their stuff. We all spend enough time away from our families and all the fun stuff working for it so I for one want it to be nice when they go to use it. Truck, boat, house and so on.

Wow, nice dad. When I was a teenager it was along the lines of, "This is the vehicle you will use, if you don't like it you can take the bus or walk."

I don't see how you got from point A to point B when I don't find this thread to be that at all. Yes, there is a lot of whining on this forum, but when you have a certain amount of pride in your belongings other people don't have the right to disrespect it. Pickup or house, it doesn't matter. It's not their property, especially when its carelessness of others.

We are experiencing this with my girlfriends new car. Its used, it's not perfect. That doesn't mean its okay for the neighbor to bump into your parked car and not care. I wish I could rig a something similar to sliders on this thing because they do the truck miracles.

A truck to me is a tool I prefer to take care of it but we all work hard for our "things". If I ding or total it solo car sure I'll be upset but at the end of the day it can be replaced albeit expensive but I can live with it. The anger an frustration comes from someone else's disregard for property/life from my perspective that's what's hard to swallow.

I'm very similiar to most posters here ( except for the hard asses that retaliate). I keep great care of my things. Cleanest house/car/truck on the block. I take pride in it to be honest.

But all the uproar over a door ding, lol.

One member on here blantantly wacked another guys door to the point of damaging it because the OP accidentally dinged his; can you say loser. Talk about a hard ass move. That is the shit that is nutty. Another member getting all high and mighty cause some young kid made a mistake and he in turns stares down the mother cause she didnt get on her knees and beg for forgiveness.

Shit happens, but dudes that retaliate, in my opinion are scum and in someways worse then the culprit.

Thanks! Mine was like this is what we can afford. 82 S10 with a ton of miles and some rust. Took care of it as much as I do my cars today.

    Yup. Karma is a bitch.

Smashing someone's door because they gave you a door ding isn't going to prevent them from doing it in the future....cutting their door off with a sawzall will though. If you're going to retaliate at least make it count.

I worked my ass off to pay for my truck. I'm not ready to have some little kid ding it with a shopping cart because people don't know how to parent. If I dinged somebody's car when I was a kid my dad would've beat the living shit out of me.

You'll grow up a bit and figure it out. I had the same mentality as you 10 years ago.

Really, it's not worth the stress.
