It isn't the additives in winter the refiners can use a lighter mix of gas molecules as the cold means lower vapor pressure. The lighter molecules have less energy but in the summer they can't use as much of the lighter cut so you get larger molecules which release more energy when burned. Think it has something to do with the emissions regulations and of course making more $.

That said, Dang OP that's as good as my 4 cylinder or better with my new tires... makes me wonder why I got a 4 banger haha. Too late now =)

2022 sr5 long bed 2wd v6. Currently at 18k miles and I drive about 90% highway/10% city. Only mods are 265-75-16 ultraterrains and deleted the wind mustache. Getting between 20-23 per tank. Seen an increase in mpg after I hit about 15k miles, so for about the last 3k. Not sure if this is normal but I’m not complaining.

Average speed matters more than other variables. When I’m going 70-75 mpg drops to 16-18.5. At 55-65 it jumps to 20-23.5. Have to decide if it’s worthwhile to take the interstate home or the state highway and save the 2-4 mpg and take 10 more minutes and deal with stop signs/etc.

You can't use the vehicle's computer to learn the true mileage (as we can see above)... Zero the trip odometer, drive a lot, fill up, divide the miles driven by the gallons to fill up. Make adjustmeants for oversize tires, which slow the odometer. Many of us use the "next size larger" tires that don't require a lift, like the 1" taller 265/75-16 (over the stock 265/70-16s). Add 4% to the odometer reading if that is your case.

Months ago there was a thread I posted on talking about gas mileage and I posed a pic of me consistently getting 30-32mpg driving each way to work ( ~50 miles). All the haters attacked me. Said the readings were not accurate ( I mean, do you really think the readings are off by 50%?), said I must drive like a granny ( I don't think you can drive like a granny on Houston highways and live), blah blah blah.

Like damn people, be uplifters, not downshifters. Don't hate, congratulate.....

As the old adage goes: People want you to do well, they just don't want you to do better than them.

I have a MT on 275/70 E rated tires. I coast down hills alot but my last tank averaged 22.3 MPG (hand calculated). This was city and highway combined. Im pretty happy with that.

I get an average of 19 to 20 MPG on the highway.

    Eat your heart out -
This was a trip up the interstate doing 70-75 mph most of the way.

This is backwards. Seasonal blends are measured in RVP - Reid vapor pressure which is a measurement of gas volatility. I used to have a kit when I worked for GM that could actually measure it. Race car folks and such use this because, as we know, everything in racing is critically important when it comes to performance.
Regardless, RVP is higher in the winter. This means the fuel is MORE volatile and due to colder temperatures. Low volatile gas in the winter would result in drivability problems. RVP cannot be higher than 9ish in the summer = it's usually around 8 depending on where you live.

Anyhow, my fuel mileage isn't great (2022 OFFROAD 3000 miles). I drove to Stratton VT yesterday - highway 75, back roads 55, and averaged 16ish. This is with stock tire size. Yes, hills and cold, but still not great in my mind. I don't love the powertrain in this truck. Feel like it's underpowered which makes it shift wonkey on the highway. I think I'm slightly obsessed with MPG ever since getting a hybrid RAV4 as my other vehicle.

Lol we're saying the same thing lighter molecules is higher RVP (thanks forgot that term) but they have less energy so less mpg

Think of diesel it has a low vapor pressure but more energy.

Sure, but you said in the winter it's lower vapor pressure. This is backwards. No biggie. I've never heard of it as different weighted molecules - I will have to investigate lol. Never too old to learn.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
Just went from sea-level back up to the high country 6000 feet. Driving 90 mph the entire time. Beat this!
