My SR5 4X4 only has the brake-activated traction control, no electronic rear locker. Is this system as good as an actual LSD? I'm thinking of adding a front locker and wonder if that will be sufficient for Moab style trails or will I also need something better in the rear.
Because the diff is break actuated, what happens when one wheel is in the air? Does it act just like typical LSD and all the power goes to the free wheel?

Sadly TRAC and A-Trac systems are not as good as having an LSD. I found out the hard way while trying to pull my boat up a slippery ramp with my TRD Sport, wheel spun and the other would not pick up for the lost traction. First truck I've owned that did not have an LSD, finally was able to pull up the ramp in 4LO with a lot of wheel slippage. Previous trucks with LSD could just pull in 2HI. I would not be comfortable using my TRD Sport on MOAB style trails without an LSD or diff lockers.

I'd want the front and rear locked on a $50k truck going to Moab. For a lot of trails the trac and Atrac will get you by, but for serious trails you need serious equipment.

I did a couple Eastern Jeep badge of honor trails in my 2nd gen with the yellow wire mod and open diffs and it was fine but it wasn't a brand new vehicle and I wasnt scared to break it.

It's a shame Toyota didn't go as far as they could with the Auto LSD. Because it's computer controlled, they could have easily programmed it to keep power to the traction wheel regardless of what the other wheel is doing. I suspect it was done in order to offer the E-locker as an upgrade. It's almost always about money.
Even so, the upside is we should be able to add a true locker and retain the LSD function. I had to remove my rear LSD from my Gen 1 Tundra when installing an ARB; something I wouldn't do again. You don't want either/or.

Are we safe to assume the 24 Tacoma 9.5" 32 Spline is compatible with the Land Cruiser and Tundra 9.5" 32 aftermarket mechanical LSDs and lockers? Haven't been able to find any good documentation of the 24 Taco diff upgrade compatibility.
