I have a 2006 Tacoma, Base Crew, 4 wheel drive, 4.0 V6. I have replaced the front brakes, rotors, calibers, pads. I have also replaced both rear cylinders and shoes.
I have tried to bleed the brakes but am having trouble. One Mechanic told me to just put a hose on a bleed and put it a clear bottle with brake fluid in it and open the bleeder and pump until I see fluid.
Another Mechanic said that I needed a scanner that would operate the ABS and do an Autubleed. I bought a scanner that was supposed to do that but when I got to the bleed function the Scanner said it didn't support my vehicle any suggestions?

Did you run the reservoir dry?

It’s a common constantly recurring problem. Getting air in the abs and can’t get it out.

Some have claimed success by slamming the brakes on gravel or dirt to activate the abs, then bleed like usual. Repeat as necessary.

Or take it to a dealership or shop with the necessary software to cycle the abs module.

You'll most likely need to actuate the ABS pump.
You can do this by finding a dirt/gravel road and hitting the brakes hard/fast.
It's not the "ideal" way of doing it, but it works.

Typically you'd want a scan tool do this, but it looks like you've been there and it didn't "work out".
I guess you send it back and hope the next one you buy works.

So let me get this straight, there is a scanner that will function the ABS on my Tacoma? The scanner manufacturer is telling me that this cannot be done on a Toyota.
If I could get any brakes at all on it, I could do the gravel road thing. I live on a gravel road.
I did not run the resrevoir dry. However I had a front and rear line break during repairs and those lines leaked a lot. I have even used an air powered vacuum bleeder that pulled a lot of air out of fronts but didn't seem to do anything on the rears.

Yes. There are scan tools that will actuate the ABS module. Maybe the company you are talking just doesn’t make a scan tool that does. But there most certainly are others that will.

if air got to the ABS module, it is VERY difficult to get out without activating the solenoids (ABS bleed routine). Really depends how much air got in there. I just got an ipad based tool (X Tool) that will do an ABS bleed for under $200. probably still cheaper than getting this done at a dealer.
