Not sure if it’s normal I have a 2020 with 10k miles with a 6 sod manual . No hard braking ,no unusual noises . I noticed with light input on the brake pedal. The pedal feels like it doesn’t do anything and I need to apply more pressure to the pedal for the brakes to engage .other vehicles I have owned seem to engage with light pressure . The Tacoma does not . I don’t recall if this was happening when I purchased the truck . It seems the more miles I get the brakes seems non existent . Any advice or input is greatly appreciated .

Does the pedal travel further and further?

This doesn't sound normal to me.

I noticed a similar thing with my brake pedal now with 9k miles on my 2020. Seems the pedal is a bit soft and requires more pressure to stop. I never use the E brake so maybe the rear shoes aren't adjusting and need to be manually reset. Not a big deal, but i have noticed a slight change. I just think this is normal under the conditions said above.

Where its a brand new truck, the rear drum adjusters should still work / not be frozen up. Might just need to activate them?

Might need to bleed the brakes.

Believe this is normal. My taco requires more pressure on the brake pedal to stop than any other vehicle I've owned including older ones.

The off-road brakes feel a bit different than normal sure to the hydraulic booster, so it probably is normal. Try to take a different off-road for a test drive to see if yours behaves the same.

If I was in this situation I would probably inspect everything just to make sure there wasn’t any leaks anywhere. I would probably pull the drums and just have a look at everything. Then I might bleed the system again just to make sure there is no air in it from assembly. Odd things like that happen once in awhile. Not sure how I would proceed from there I guess it would depend on the results or the other stuff.

this, and it got worse for me as the pads aged. i considered replacing with stock but i just can't justify poor braking performance like that. replaced with a Wilwood BBK and super happy with it. also 34lbs unsprung weight off the front.

back up several times, hit the brakes semi hard to stop, it will tighten up the rear brakes. I do it every couple weeks when I notice pedal travel. I roll down a hill backward a few feet then hit the brakes and pulse them on and off as I roll down the hill a few more feet. Solid pedal is back after that.

Yup. You newer guys are probably ok, but I had to tear mine apart just this weekend because one of the adjusters was frozen and the other was pretty sticky. Just an FYI for anyone reading in the future

I can tell you after a year owning my 2001 tundra, i had to manually adjust the rear drum brakes to bring the petal feeling back to new...seems just the nature of the beast with these toyotas. I don't think those rear drums changed much in 20 years

Those with the manual transmission when you go apply light pressure to the pedal do you have any feedback from the brakes or do you require more input before the brakes start to engage . I know the manual has a different brake system than the auto I believe I could be wrong . I did check all the lines and fluids and didn’t see any leaks any where .

@tonered, got any input for this? My AT is touchy to others when they drive my truck, so figured if it's an MT thing, you'd be the guy to know.

My brakes are fine, they are not inconsistent like you described.
