    Hello TW,

I cannot find a place to mount the damn controller without have the possibility of ripping the damn thing off with my foot when I get it. I have the Tekonsha P3.

I was thinking the glovebox, has anyone done this?

I cannot fit it in that cubby on the right side of the wheel because my switch pro panel is in there.

    Your thoughts please?

    Thanks,

    Mike

What about the cubby hole on the lower LEFT side of wheel?

Do you need to know, or care?
    You could start here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/gen-3-towing-thread.413026/page-40

A few guys have posted pictures of where they mounted them, or ask for advice.

    Cheers!

I mounted it in the glove box. I love having the controller and happy that I found a space that would compromise the clean interior and leg room.

There's a guy on this forum that makes mounts specifically for the p3 to fit your left side cubby. Try a search.

Holy sh#t!!.....I can't believe this thread title didn't get more attention. Why dont you just mount it under the hood, get it out of the way completely? See that doo-hickey on the front? There is a manual lever on all brake controllers that MUST be within reach. When your trailer starts swaying/fishtailing on the freeway, or you misjudged the distance and your 6000lb load is pushing your truck towards a busy intersection cause you forgot to change the gain for a different setup, and you mounted it NOT in the glove box you can thank me. There is a reason those short pigtails they sell are the length they are.

I mounted mine in the charging cubby. No longer a knee knocker and installed within arms reach. Cubby can still be used. Just make sure you mount it far enough back so you can still use the cup holder.

In my first write up I made a mistake, in that left cubby I have a Switch Pros panel so that eliminated that option right away.

I made sure mine is within reach. It's very accessible. Due to the fact I rarely tow with the Tacoma I pray that this is fine. Just annoying that Toyota does not make a stock setup.

    Hello,

Did you have to extend your pigtail for this install? Also how much dissembling did you have to do to mount the base?

I did have to extend the harness so it would reach the drivers side kick panel. I had to remove the radio and heat controls in order to fish the wires. By cutting the harness and splicing in longer wires, it allows you to drill a smaller hole in the cubby to pass the wires through.

Thanks for the reply. Ill try it in the glovebox and if it turns out to be unsafe ill relocate it.

I can still change the gain fairly quickly just pop the glove box. I love not having it visible, thats the thing.

When will you know if in the glove box is "unsafe"? Maybe have second thoughts when youre hanging by your seatbelt upside down in a ditch:tinfoilhat:

This is not for me to be in defense of my install, I will be taking extra time to fine tune the gain when hooking up any individual trailer. Just the inconvenience it will case by having it up in front and kicking it every time can be a pain in the ass also. Just would be one hell of a story if the glove box lock fails.
