Purchased a new travel trailer and the dealer threw in a brake controller as part of the deal. It is a Tekonsha Primus IQ.

I was reading through the documentation and it states that it needs to be installed parallel to the direction of travel. The dealer installed it on the right side of the dash underneath the cubby. So it appears that it is not installed properly as that is an angled surface relative to the front of the truck.

What is the margin of error for this particular controller? Is it worth moving or will it be fine?

And how hard is it to replace the cubby now that it has holes in it?

    Thanks!

It is installed correctly. The picture was perfect for showing the installation of the brake controller. As far as the mounting of the brake controller you should have no issues.

Went out and grabbed a picture. I compared install notes from other Tekonsha controllers. Some specify a tolerance of 20 degrees relative to parallel of vehicle travel. My install guide does not.

Camera is facing the direction of travel.

It depends on the method it uses to control the brakes. Some proportional controls use basically a swinging lever. The hard you stop, the further the swing and the greater the voltage it puts out. Those have to be mounted in a straight line with your travel and level left/right. If they're not the swing won't move correctly and you'll end up with underbraking. The up/down angle isn't important as long as the swing is in the right direction. If it runs on multiple accelerometers it's less of an issue as it should sense where it sits normally and any change results in breaking.

Looking at your pic, it's not parallel, and it's canted (obviously or you wouldn't be asking). Regardless of how my controller worked, I wouldn't install it like that.

    And from the manufacturer

"Note: The Primus IQ must be mounted on a level horizontal (side-to-side) plane and must be lined up with the direction of travel for the internal sensor to function properly."
