After searching around I did not see that anyone had done an install this way, so I figured I'd post a few pics of my Tekonsha P3 brake controller install. Since finding the wire and plugging in the harness is very well covered in videos like

I will only talk about the things I did differently. I was able to route the cables to the center console and find an existing screw right next to the shifter to attach the ground wire. NB: The white wire on the right hand side of the pic is the ground wire I attached, from the brake controller harness.

I then drilled a hole in the back of the center console underneath where the cigarette lighter style 12V power connections and USB AUX is.

Then, with the center console out, I was able to mount the bracket for the controller. It is very visible and easy to reach and adjust in this location.

That's currently one of my top three choices for location mine when it gets here. Did you use the tacoma cable from Tekonsha only, or graft the Tekonsha cable to the Toyota pigtail to reach that far?

I used the cable that came with the controller with no modifications. The ground cable won't reach the location shown in the video. But, it was easier to attach next to the shifter anyway, since there is already a screw there.

Don't forget to post a pic when you are done, I'd love to see how your turns out!
