I will say, without the hydraulic booster, pedal effort is increased by approximately 5x and no brake pressure is applied to the rear brakes.

If the vacuum booster fails, effort does not increase by quite as much and the rear brakes would still operate.

So, booster failure is more detrimental with the hydraulic booster.

I still don’t have major concerns about the safety of the hydraulic booster setup though. It’s pretty well thought out and has been used for about 25 years.

This thread make me think of all the times someone gets their nuts crushed because they ask if an aftermarket seat jacker or driver door grab handle may be a hazard.

Maybe we should start giving those questions more consideration before we pile on the posters for asking the question. See what happened with a simple bracket.

Rats have been eating wiring harnesses in cars since forever, they don’t discriminate. Every manufacturer has tried to be sued for this very thing

There’s a previous thread on this. Before I installed the panel I cut off that section and reinforced the wiring with wire loom and tape. The mount is still solid without that section. Mine has been this way for a year so far

Please take some personal responsibility. You installed a shitty part and didn’t realize / understand how and what moves in the engine bay and what problems it could cause. You implicitly trusted a bad vendor, that’s on you and them. There are multiple single points of failure on the brake system of every single vehicle ever built. It was never a Toyota part or design that was at fault in this case, only you (or installer) and the vendor.

I just had a chuck of metal hit my passenger side under truck on freeway about mile later traffic came to stop to my surprise no brakes that emergency brake saved my azz and had to use it another 15 miles or so to get to my shop. Lucky for me their is a hot rod shop nextdoor they gave me hard tubing and a snap on flaring tool and tubing bender set so I made new ones for both sides .

There are a lot of rub spots all around the engine and elsewhere on the truck, in addition to rodents who like to chew surrounding it wherever we park. Nobody is safe from catastrophic vehicle failures, and have you ever noticed that they tend to happen at the worse possible time?! :goingcrazy:

I was just going to say the same thing as @Timmcc02 . Rodents have been eating wires for a long time. Hell, just about every vehicle revival video I watch has wires that are eaten by rodents. There are a number of theories for this but fact is it started LONG before companies started using soy in the wiring insulation.

To all those who've actually talked through the issue and had meaning contributions, thank you!

Unfortunately I'm still having the issue. I patched (just until I know the fix) the wire. Modified the mount. Let it all sit off battery over night (twice, long story) and still no change. Getting more nervous it's a major (EXPENSIVE) issue.

Here's a video from the night it happened. I was able to limp it off the trail and park at a friends house just down the road. Still getting all the same warnings now.

Did you check all the appropriate fuses? If the wire was actually comprised (therefore needing a patch) then it most likely / hopefully popped a fuse
