Probably a dumb question but I am doing the "big brake kit" (author MJBTaco) on my 2003 5 lug tacoma and I have just one question. The 03 requires DOT3 brake fluid but I am not sure if the calipers (from a 2006 Cadillac ATS) require DOT4/5 brake fluid. I would appreciate any input. Thx

all i can say for a fact is your not suppose to mix different DOT's of brake fluid in system

those higher DOT grades have higher boiling pts.....like for a track/race car

    IMO
    unless your autoX'ng/tracking your taco....DOT 3 fine
    less work too
just make sure caddy ATS calipers are blown out with compressed air (to get rid of the DOT 4/5 fluid)

    or
use the DOT 4/5 but make sure to flush every drop of DOT 3 fluid out of your current system

Nothing should require DOT4/5, they are completely different fluid types. DOT5.1, however, is compatible with DOT4 systems. You can flush out a DOT3 system with DOT4 and not have issues. I'd probably do DOT4 for this setup, especially if you are keeping the drums in the rear. I've run ATE TYP200 in everything from my 87 Supra to my 2021 Tacoma and countless other cars that started life as a DOT3 system and it's fantastic every time.

Whatever fluid you go with, I highly suggest the Motiv power bleeder, with a 3rd party MC adaptor. It seems pricey up front, but it works so well.

Thanks everyone, great advice. Can't wait to get all the parts and put it all together.
