What are we looking at? The worn in lip at the bottom of the pad swipe on the rotor?

Could be a broken bit off the pad. I'd guess uneven pressure on the pad though, sticking caliper piston maybe?

    How are the caliper pins?
Are they pads free to slide on the pins?
Maybe they are causing the pads to stick.
The pins are up top, so maybe that is it?

    Just a guess?

When I say stick, I mean stick OPEN.

^this most likely. Pull the pins, sand smooth with sand paper. No more than 100 grit. Preferably wet and dry sandpaper. Get smooth, apply grease/lube, put them back in.and go from there.

Check what area the pads make contact with, I've seen aftermarket pads that don't cover as much area as OEM pads.

    Beyond basic caliper maintenance.

I would suspect wheel bearing play.

Are the pads and rotors oem?

I suppose taking a look at the backside would help further diagnose this?
If it’s a bearing issue, would the back side be the opposite wear pattern as the front?
A bearing never crossed my mind? Good catch.

Good call on the OEM parts.
Wouldn’t surprise me if aftermarket were rotor weren’t milled flat.

I guess doing this for a living helps, huh?
Some of this stuff, is at home DIYer’s don’t see enough to think about it.

I don't judge, I just share my experiences. Typically I'll see weird outer edge wear like that if the rotor is cocking under turns due to bearing play.

Cheap rotors will do this, but these don't look like they are no-name parts.
