The thing I don’t understand with any car manufacturer. So the brake line issue is so bad they have to have a stop sale yet you have thousands out there driving their truck with said problem with no fix for months. Make that make sense.

Could the rubber line be reran the same direction the hard line on the axle does into the caliper eliminating that loop inside the wheel?

I have no idea what's needed to make the brakes work when it comes to which way the lines run.

I was thinking stop the hard line closer to the center of the axle and run the soft line along the axle. The soft line might be more exposed to damage that way. It would easily damaged if you thru a J hook around the axle.

That is just simple managing costs and reputation. There is no reimbursing dealers for labor, no additional freight costs shipping parts, simplified logistics and not inconveniencing customers who likely use the vehicles often. There won't be any costs associated with loaner vehicles as often happens.

It's a matter of practicality. They can't just tell people "don't drive." It's not reasonable to provide a replacement vehicle for every one of them. They need time to formulate a reasonable fix; you definitely don't want them just pulling one out of their butts.

What else would you have them do?

Then why put a stop sale? If they need time to formulate then why not just sell those trucks until then. They are losing sales having them sit.

Because it limits liability and the possibility someone can get hurt in a way they reasonably can control. Clearly, they've decided that making sales does not have priority over the negative issues raised by continuing to sell them.

There's different laws regarding recalls and new vs used vehicles. With a safety recall a new vehicle cannot be sold until fixed. With a used vehicle for sale or an owned vehicle the requirement is that the customer be notified of the recall if it cannot be fixed immediately.

Poorly routed. It's amazing that this didn't get flagged by any of the engineers, disappointing mistake.

Pics of "the fix" for the rear brake line, below. These are from a 2025 TRD Off Road with standard 17" wheels that was available for sale (this is why I presume this is a fixed truck). Apologies for the crappy focus on most of these.

Below, on the left, I show this first, to point out the green band on the soft brake line (this is where the soft line attaches to the caliper port). I don't think this was on the original line so maybe they added the green band to the line so a tech can quickly see if the fix has been applied. Below right show the coupler/bracket where the hard and soft lines are joined (green arrows for hard line, red arrows for soft line).

Below: I couldn't get a pic of the full routing so the below group of 4 shows a few angles that cover the whole line. Note the bend radius of the line is now down to be about the same as the circumference of the rotor shield (or whatever that part is called). Again look for the green stripe to get your bearings (it's hidden by the corrugated line in the upper right and lower left pics but visible in the others).

And the next group of pics gives a better perspective relative to the inner wheel barrel, and how much clearance there is now.

It's not clear to me if there is a new bracket that gets installed at different angle, or if they simply shortened the original line but all else was unchanged.

Amazing you were able to share this. Thank you. Wonder if hybrid owners can also do this either through a future recall or by election with Toyota.

Hard to tell from the pics, but it appears all they did was shorten line. Ok fix as long it's away from the inside of the wheel.

Maybe changing the drum brakes wasn't a good idea? :notsure:

Naaa, it was a good idea by Toyo. It's just a poorly executed design (limited to the brake line.)

I’m being told mid-May for parts to be shipped out. Gonna be another 6 weeks min. before I can get my truck. Trying not to think of it too much.

Bummer. I'm in the same situation. I feel your pain. I haven't yet been able to get such a specific estimate despite my pestering.

Stop sale trucks will be fixed before mine. But with 18” wheels, I am not going to worry about it. I’m not planning to drive up to the north pole via Alaska.
