Does that mask a failure or mitigate it? Not sure the actual failure process on these. If it rips off at the metal fitting, that won't address that.

I don't think it is that big of a deal ,if you never off road the truck and only drive on the streets.

I wonder if the new 6th gen 4runner models that have 17" wheels have the same issue.
Edit: looks like only the SR5 model has 17" wheels. All the others seem to have 18-20".

That underground OR is subject to a hold. Even if I had bought it on Tuesday it was not going home. Wonder which will be fixed first… a new one off the line or one on the lot.

I don’t think good ‘ol Mike Sweers had an anything to do with engineering the 4th gen. Too busy counting his money in the C-suite these days…

Glad I was able to get mine just before the recall came out - what a headache to want a perfectly good truck, and the dealership cock-blocking you from it.

I don't think it's huge problem and it's a simple fix. I do question how does a simple mechanical issue get over looked when time went into removable BT speakers and ISO Dynamic seats? What's more important at Toyota?

Probably because when they do their testing, its all dusty ass dry roads and never 6-12" of mud. I remember watching one of the TFL press videos and the guides got all pissy because they tried to go through a puddle faster than 5mph

Didn't they say it had to do with wheel size? OR is 17" where Sport is 18".

FWIW, I spoke with a buddy who works for Toyota, and deals with recall issues. His words "yeah ... easy fix ... long story." With that, I'm not going to worry about it.

yes it appears to be based solely on wheel size. seems to me like just a matter of time before a brake line inside an 18" wheel finds a way to fail too. an extra 1/2" isn't all that much more clearance given the silly routing and potential play in the line.

I was gonna say, someone needs to crawl under the new 4Runners and see how the brake line is routed. That’ll likely give an indication of what the fix is.

Let’s hope I don’t have to use my spare…………standard spare on a Sport is 17”……

The front brakes do most of the work. Can't you just cork off the rear lines and make do with that?

That could be a problem. I see the recall is for 4x4 trucks only and equipped with 17" wheels. Obviously 18" offer more clearance, but a Rwd truck could accumulate enough debri to cause a problem.

It would also seem to vmake sense to replace the lines on the trucks with 18" wheels out of an abundance of caution. Again you say you have a 17" spare. Unless the trucks equipped with 18" wheels have a different brake hose design that wouldn't benefit from the recall fix. I'd imagine all trucks being built after the recall announcement are leaving the factory with the redesigned hoses.

Again probably no issues with the 18" wheels but what about the Rwd trucks on 17" wheels? The recall should be expanded. I'd think there would be less room inside the 17" steel wheel compared to the 17" alloy wheel.

The LC 250 might give you an idea. Those are all hybrid and could be a different layout of the lines. I have no idea how different the rear brakes look on the hybrid Tacoma compared to nonhybrid. I wonder what brake line routing looks like on the various Tundra hybrid vs nonhybrid.

I put a deposit down over the phone with a dealer 400 miles from here the same day the stop sale was issued. Now I'm wondering if I should ask for my deposit back or renegotiate the price.

Correct. Any time you deviate from factory configuration, you assume all risk.

That said, once the recall parts become available, buying the revised hoses yourself shouldn't cost much.

Some good American capitalist should come up with a "brake hose skid" and sell it with typical overlander markups. Make another version with LEDs for the Pro bros.
