New update on my Tacoma. I cranked it up this morning and it shut off on me immediately. I press the button and it started up right away everything seem to be fine then I pressed The gas and got very little response check engine light was on traction control light was on. The truck would go maybe 10 miles an hour with the pedal to the metal

I got the Brake Override Failure message today. Im calling Toyota corporate today as well. My dealer is absolutely horrible. I have the diff whine that is so loud I can hear it over the radio, but the dealer says they cant recreate it. This is also the dealer that short filled my FRS by an entire quart of oil after I supplied the exact amount needed for the change.

Ive had the truck for three weeks, and the diff whine with this brake override failure alarm has me a little upset with Toyota right now.

My buddy in silverton CO just got the alarm and the dealer said it was caused by him installing aftermarket ditch lights!!! We did a add a fuse with a delegate fuse for the lights. They were saying he would pay the 4K for the new part? WTF!!!

Good luck. Hopefully the more people complain about the diff whine, the sooner we get it fixed.

It just happened to me last Friday. Had the truck towed to Toyota and the service consultant just informed me one of the computers broke and will need to be replaced. Of course they do not it in stock and will need to order it from the mainland. Ugh.

I have 30,000 on my 2016 TRD. Happened to me yesterday on the highway no less. Pulled over scratched my head and continued on although no cruise control. Came home from work with everthing fine and this morning same thing right out of the garage. No acceleration. I did hit a deer 3 weeks ago that took out the left side and my battery. Everything fixed and a week out of shop this stuff happens. Any thoughts? I'll be checking battery thanks to threads.

Welcome to the forum. My guess is that something is loose in your fuse box right behind the battery. Good luck!

I got this, I presume, because I unplugged my accelerator pedal (while the ignition was on, engine off). It would only go like 5 mph.

I unplugged the battery for a while; then, all was well.

My boys ‘16 TRD OR is now having this problem. He had a light hit into a dumpster, broke left rear tail light. Replaced both with LED units from Tacoma Beast, now the brake malfunction light came on. Same thing, hitting the gas gets you not much power.
No blown fuses that we can find. We had it at the dealer and they said they couldn’t find any problems and sent him on his way (after charging $150). A mile later it came back on and he went back. They told him to put the stock lights back in and see if that fixes it. Now it won’t start.

I too had the error and cleared the codes. Did the error ever come back or did you have to remove the pedal commander?
Worried this might happen again in the future :(
