Is this normal? It's like an air or hissing sound. It wont let me upload the video. Only from pressing the brake a couple of inches. Parked, running on and off.

    2018 TRd off road.

ROFL... I just came here to ask the same thing... yes, I have the same sound. Just like the sound of someone saying "Shhh". I haven't crawled under the dash to find the source yet. You are not alone.

Mine does it if I'm thinking it's the sound mine makes. 26k miles and no issues.

Quoted from the FJ forum " The noise you are hearing is the release of the pressurized brake fluid from the accumulator into the brake hydraulic system. If you open the hood, start the truck, stick your head back by the master cylinder/accumulator assenmbly and have an assistant push the brake pedal firmly, you will hear it even more clearly. More importantly, you will hear it coming from the accunulator as I describe."

So does off road have better brakes then? And do they all do it? I dont see a lot of people posting about it. Or does just some OR make the sound?

I don't know about "better" on the street, but the fact that Off Roads and Pros have Crawl Control/MTS or ATRAC (Manual Trans) would be the primary reason for the electric/hydraulic brake booster.

My '16 makes that sound, you can hear it clearly with key on/engine off and pressing the pedal.

    Normal.

    Why?

Unless you're thinking about more expensive and complex repairs down the road...

I guess I don't even notice it any more..

Turn up the juke box and get over it.

It may be Toyota engineered and built, but it isn't a Lexus. It's a truck.

This was a 'feature' even on 2nd gen ORs. It's not a 3rd gen issue. Or any issue at all.
