Agreed with other comments. When you go into the dealershp anyways don't have the aftermarket tails in. Just get the vehicle running. I too had the problems with the lights not working, hence in my posts from when I had trouble the infotainment center dash did not light up at all nor did the back lights. Basically the STOP fuse and the TAIL fuse needs to be swapped with the stocks on. Go to the dealership and hope they don' charge to much. Once all the fuses have been fixed and you feel confident enough to try again like I did, make sure all the connectors are properly seated and that the color wires should match up. And when I mean the connectors properly seated I mean that those paper clip like wires need to be perfectly straight and not crooked at all. I'll see if I can find the picture tgat Winjet sent me to properly install the tails.

@Tacomerica not sure if you were sent this but here is what they sent me and so far worked besides what the dealership apparently fixed for me. Hope everything works out cause these tails look amazing, would not believe how many comments I get.

I had this exact same thing happen last night when I tried installing my new tail lights. Had to take it to the dealership though. Did you ever get your refund?

    Hi Everyone,

I am very sorry I have not been so responsive on this forum lately. We have had several people that have had this issue. I have attached a short installation video of the lights. Please pay special attention to the 1:44 and 1:49 mark of the video to see a photo of how the connectors should be connected.

    Thank you
    Jeff

Really wish these winjet taillights came with directions. I wasn’t even thinking about the right way when i plugged them into the female connector of the truck. So my brake override malfunction light came on and I’m taking it to dealership tomorrow. Directions would have stopped all of this from happening

So after i get done at the dealership and they fix everything. As long as i hook the wires correctly together this issue won’t happen again?

That is correct. The issues that people were having in regards to fuses blowing were resolved when the wires were connected properly.

Alright. Would be nice if it didn’t just say plug and play. Definitely a right way to plug. Thanks

After nearly 30 years in the electrical field, I can honestly say “plug and play” achieves about a 50% success rate.

Where I work, we call it “plug and pay”.

Haha. Well that’s the thing, i got the first taillights right and then i did the other one and that’s when it happened. Got exactly 50%

Yeah seems to be a common problem when not connected correctly. Didn' get a refund but all is working fine now.

Sorry to revive an old thread but this happened to me a while ago and it’s one of my worst fears. It happened when I was pulling onto a busy street and crossing lanes and I almost got destroyed. My truck was bone stock.

It only happened when the lights were on, and the dealer gave me some crap about having one of the tail bulbs installed incorrectly which was shorting on the same circuit as the CANBUS causing the brake override malfunction to fire. I couldn’t drive over like 5 mph without it kicking in and turning the throttle off.

It seemed like a crock of sh**, but they were supposedly flying out a high ranking Toyota engineer to try and replicate it with a new truck last time I checked since I didn’t have any aftermarket lights. This would really suck if it happened in the backcountry.

I seriously just went through this exact same thing. Your response about the brake fuse under the hood is what got my truck back running. I think I messed a wire up myself in the back tho to be honest. Lol. Lesson learned, the hard way once again.

Disconnect both battery leads and touch them together. I had the same issue and the stealer told me to try this next time after I had to have my Taco towed to them.

No, the stealer had already reset the code and I haven't seen it again.
