So my brake pedal has always kinda felt...weird. At the VERY top or right upon initial press it feels "notchy" almost loose under my foot. It's most pronounced in stop and go traffic when you have to lightly tap the brake.
Anybody have a similar feeling? Normal? Am I overreacting?
I had the dealer look at it today while investigating my SRS Airbag light(please see my funny thread on that) and she(the Service Advisor) said "on the 2018's there is a little rod at the top of the brake pedal that is probably exhibiting that feeling in the pedal. The tech test drove 2 other new 2018's that had the same feeling, so there is nothing to fix or report on this issue"
    Thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Mark

Well, hello. I have a 2017 SR5 DCSB and have posted numerous times since yesterday about some weird ass brake pedal issues. Started happening yesterday on the highway...I have 5,100 miles on it. Suddenly feels spongy, like there is some feedback in the pedal for the first 1/2" of pressing, and loose. Dealer said nothing abnormal at all and could not replicate issue.

You don't have the same braking system as the Off Road model.

I am aware of that - does this guy have an Off Road Model in this thread? Am I missing something?

No worries! All the threads I have posted in over the last 24 hours have mostly been in reference to OR Tacos. I feel like I finally got lucky with an SR5, if you can call it luck.

2018 built in November and the brakes feel solid. A different feeling entirely to the past OR. What is concerning is post #2 at 5100 miles. I’m at 3300. Have ya’ll checked the brake fluid reservoir, and the brake lines for any leaks? After reading about all these horror stories at dealerships for warranty work, I’m going under the truck more periodically for checks.

The Taco brake slap is tough enough to take. Particularly in parking structures, they can be loud :anonymous:

I went from a 2015 Tundra to a 2018 DC 4x4 Trd off road, and there is definitely some sort of odd take up with the brake pedal during the initial depression. I suppose the OP's "notchy" description fits pretty good, with that said It hasn't caused any issues during various driving scenarios. My truck was built 3/18 in Mexico and the pedal feeling was noticed during the test drive and repeatable with no changes thru 1k miles.

Mine has had it since day one. Thought it might have been a bad ABS system component, but after reading that others have it...

I think it is normal for your truck. SR5 is not .

    Thanks for the feedback guys.
I think it's an annoying issue but I guess over time I hope to just "get used to it". If it continues to bug me or get the slightest bit worse I'll definitely bring it again. I may test drive one or two trucks next time at the dealer to see if indeed they do it as well.

Please keep us updated. I'm watching for any brake issues very closely and will bring it straight back to the dealer if anything gets worse. I'm glad I have it on record with Toyota though that it was brought in and assessed as normal, even if it isn't, so at least there is a paper trail .

Same here, I definitely wanted it noted for future reference. I have the truck back at the dealership today for an unrelated airbag issue and a different tech is working on it today and I asked him to asses the break pedal issue as well.

Also, forgive me if I missed something but does the SR5 have a different braking system then the other models?

SR5 has a Traditional Style Vacuum Booster whereas the Off Road and Pro have the Electric Booster.

What did they say, Mark? My OCD on this issue is in overdrive (just look at my post history).

Page 447 of manual: "Does brake pedal move smoothly?" No. Toyota: "Normal."

The 2nd tech confirmed the 1st techs findings; normal pedal feel with no suggestions of parts or lubrication that would help/change the feel of the pedal. Again, for me, it's most annoying/pronounced during stop 'n go traffic. I'm gonna have a few friends drive it and get their opinions. I just don't like it, I feel like something needs to get adjusted/tightened/lubricated.
