Hey everyone. I have a 05 taco 4.0 4wd. I have the 4runner bigger brakes on the front. I have had this problem for a long time I just didn't notice it as this is one of my first vehicles until my work got me a work truck and I noticed the brakes were very different and I let a friend try it and he thought that my brakes needed to be bled really bad. The pedal goes about halfway to the floor before the brakes start to work. But when the truck is off the brakes pump up just fine and there is no free play. I replaced the master cylinder today and gave it a good bleed thinking that would work but it still has the same problem. I then went to the local gravel parking lot and actuated the abs a few times and gave it a good bleed and it still has the problem. there is no leaks anywhere, the rear brakes are in adjustment, I replaced the wheel cylinders recently. I saw there are other threads on this but I could not find a good answer. Could this be a problem in the booster?

Try line-locking the rear brakes and see if the pedal gets better or changes

Are you using 4th gen 4Runner Sport 13WH calipers or 5th gen 4Runner 14WA calipers? The 14WA calipers have bigger pistons, so they require more fluid flow (i.e. more pedal travel). Test drive a 2010+ 4Runner if you have an opportunity and see if it's just as bad. I know the pedal feel on my 4Runner is garbage.

Adjust rear drums. It might take multiple attempts if the star wheels are dirty/stuck.
