OK, thanks. I may have to go with Porterfield pads. More money than Hawks, but I hear great things about them.

Depends on how a person drives. I swapped mine out at 5k miles because I knew what would happen if I didn't.

Anybody have a good totorial on changing out the rotors? I did this once about 15 years ago, helping a buddy out, but don't remember the details.

    Thanks~

Once you pull the wheels I think it's 4 bolts for each side. Remove the caliper, then remove the bracket that holds the caliper in place and the rotor falls off. It's really straight-forward and the bolts are obvious when you're looking for them. Just keep a breaker bar and dead-blow hammer handy -- the caliper bracket bolts are held in place with lock-tight.

I did something a little different. A few threads said the slotted rotors could be noisy when the brakes are applied so I bought PowerStop drilled rotors and PosiQuiet pads from AutoAnything. I also installed G-Stop SS brake lines...finished with DOT 4 synth brake fluid and moly grease on the spindles when the original rotors came off. With the brake upgrade and new XLT rubber all the way around, this monster will stop on a dime.

You're right about the shims. If the Hawks have shims glued to the back of the pad, you don't need the stock shims in addition. Any reputable garage will be able to turn the stock rotors. It's worth having them done even if you're not sure the rotors are warped. Shaving 5 or 10 mils will remove the glaze left from the old pads and true both inside & outside surfaces. Your new pads will last longer and grip better too.
